All 3rd edition books getting redone?

Epiclevel39

First Post
This is probably one of the dumbest questions in this forum, but are all of the 3rd edition books getting redone, or just the Core Rules? And if they are getting redone, are the old 3rd edition ones going to be compatable?

Thanks,
Mike

Nice painting.

As of now, only the core books are being revised. While we don't know the exact amount of revisions, the majority of your 3.0 sources are supposed to remain compatible with relatively minor changes (see the Compiled 3.5 thread in General for what we currently know is changing).

(*Shakes head* We really need a 3.5 FAQ ...)

I think that's a Great Question......

I would say that this question is quite valid and would be best answered by WoTC, as it is they who are making us all buy more "Core Rule" Books without much justification, other than a few minor changes, which in theory could have been published in a "Soft Back, Black and White Supplement" making it more economical for all us poor players of the game. I have been playing DnD now for about 20 years and feel that the Powers that be(due to changeovers with TSR and WoTC) don't seem to market their product properly and get that crucial "Customer Awareness" bang on target. They tend to rely on their existing Customer Base and just keep pumping out new books or upgraded versions and supplements. I think that it is way too soon to even need a new set of core books, when most DM's and players were already aware of the inherent problems with some of the game mechanics and sorted these problems out with in house rules or DM judgement calls. Personally, I will not be buying any of the new Core Rules books as I feel that WoTC are taking advantage of the existing customers good will and curiosity. However, back the point of the question, it would not surprise me in the least if WoTC decided to release Sword and Fist 3.5, Tome and Blood 3.5 and Savage Species 3.5, etc...But I will say that the support from WoTC for their products with extra game supplements, expansions and other D20 publishers has certainly broadend the Horizons of DnD from it's humble beginings in the 70's. I just think they should leave the Core Rules alone and conentrate and marketing their existing products more efectively. Not sure if I have Hi-jacked this thread(Sorry if I have...DOH !!!) but at least the subject matter is relevent to a certain extent. If anyone disagrees with me or can shed any light on Future WoTC Core Book releases then feel free to comment and critique.

Well, they do that: it's the SRD, which will be completely updated. So if you only want the new rules, download the SRD, print it, and here you go. You're paying only your time online, some paper and ink/toner for your printer. I can well imagine it that they mark those parts of the SRD they update, so you can just download and print that.

But I'll get the new books: I have the 1st printings of the core rules and there's so much that has been errata'ed, which doesn't show up in the books. Also, my PHB is coming apart.

To the original question:
The core rules will be redone. Other books aren't planned (or they didn't tell us). There are rumors of a revised Psionics Handbook, though.

They will release a Forgotten Realms Player's Guide, a "supplement" to the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting which will update the FRCS data to 3.5 and incorporate the Epic Rules into the Campaign (and I still hope they'll incorporate some developments from the various novels and maybe modules - including Artemis Enteri's "change").

Then there will be "The Complete Warrior", but that is by all reports no revised Sword & Fist, but a book about combat, with information for all classes (and featuring 75% new material, the rest being taken from former publications and from Dragon Mag).

Epiclevel, if you come back to this thread, please note that your random images, while pretty, are a bit large. If they don't add specifically to the value of the thread, please consider not inserting the image or at least drastically reducing its size.

This is no art gallery, these are forums. Noone objects if you put links to your favourite artists into your signature, but whole pictures are a bit much.

::mad:: Sheesh, well if I am going to get beat with a stick for a putting a pretty picture sorry...and yes its a Lockwood photo.

The objection to the size of your image is sound as it adds nothing to the thread except to waste space (taking longer to scroll down to next post) and it can take a forever to download for people with slow internet connections. Nobody's beating you up. I'm sure you didn't realize the problems the image could cause.

Pretty - yes.

Physiologically sound - no. Those muscle arrangments look all wrong, even in a creature which uses magic to boost its flying ability.

Erm...back to the question.....

WotC have stated that they will only be redoing the Core Books. Whether they produce Web updates (or similar) for the PsiHB, splatbooks, MotP etc remains to be seen, although Andy Collins has certainly hinted that psionics at least will be updated.

I for one wouldn't want to go buying another copy of Sword and Fist, Defenders of the Faith etc, but would like to see updates for them - however I'm not holding my breath.
