Indeed! I used to enjoy drawing maps a lot. It also was my major source of fun when playing the old Bard's Tale CRPG series.

I just love the creative process you go through as a DM when making interesting encounters.
It's so fun when all comes together for your character. We got ambushed by some ogres where my character proceeds to chop off one ogres head, cleave another, tumble away and sneak attack another ogre TWICE during the ambush turn and the first round.
Another encounter where i was at the top of a ladder where some orcs wanted to get up. They stormed up the ladder and they got knocked down one after the other until the last one ran DOWN the ladder to get away from my character.
It was the most fun character ever. He was so front-loaded it was amusing. He had the survivability of a piece of paper and relied on his tumble skill to keep him alive. He went down so often I had to laugh.
