All in Good Fun - "Portmanteau-ing" (Donkeyhorsing?) the Power Gamer

The "PowerChord LuteScratcher" Power Gamer -- Not actually a power gamer, per se, but just as annoying. When not actually playing the game (which is most of the gaming session), can usually be found in a corner fiddling with a guitar, hopelessly trying to plunk out Zeppelin and Tenacious D songs. Almost always a frustrated musician of marginal talent, a PowerChord LuteScratcher always plays a bard, with the idea that his/her fictional Kurtus Cobainus avatar is going to take the medieval rock scene by storm.......

A.K.A. (to some) the P.I.T.A. Bard...for those of us who enjoy Mediterranean food.

While I can't say I've done that- I don't bring my instruments to the game- I've done something similar. I'd say more than half of my PCs have some kind of ability in a musical instrument, oratory, poetry, sculpting or some other artistic skill.

I don't recall ever coming across this type of player.

Most of my musician friends over the years, had very little to no interest in playing tabletop rpg games. They were spending most of their non-work waking hours practicing their instruments, and/or writing new music.

The few times I was able to convince one or two of my musicians friends to play in an evening pickup game of D&D, they were largely into the mindless hack and slash style of dungeon crawling. They thought a bard character looked kind of on the boring side. The preferred to play fighters or rogues instead.
