pardon my childish ignorance but what's a Meijer run?

Great suggestions all, keep 'em coming!
Meijer is a 24-hour grocery/department/whatever store. They rock - I did all of my Christmas shopping at 4:00 am at a Meijer one year.

Jeez, it's been close to 10 years since my last D&D all-nighter. We usually started playing about 8 pm or so - when we pulled all-nighters, we'd play in my dorm's study lounge until the cafeteria in the student center opened. Then we'd fall on the breakfast buffet like a flock of giggling, sleep-deprived vultures, gorge ourselves stupid(er), and stagger off to our rooms to sleep it off. Man, those were good times...

Meijer run was already explained extremely well.

If you're starting at noon I would ABSOLUTELY recommend taking breaks and stretching your legs. Make sure you all go as a group to the same place so players can discuss the goings on in the game and to keep focus, but still take a rest.

I haven't done anything like this in...well, to long a time. I always just planned a whole bunch of stuff, so the party could pick and choose and then if things got slow I'd have random battle that could happen at any time to awaken them. As DM, take advantage of the sleepy players. And the PCs need to do the same if its the DM that gets tired first.

No, it's not a problem, just be sure to get plenty of sleep the day before. Bring along a lot of soda, preferrably Mountain Dew, Dr. Pepper, and Coke. Also, Iced Tea(the powdered mix variety, so you can double load it if ya have to) is very good. Order some food before the game starts, have it at the beginning of a session. Order some food later on, around 7 or 8. Get quite a bit, Chinese or Pizza are good choices, Burger King, McD's, any real fast fast food isn't gonna taste better reheated at about 3:30 in the morning.

Take breaks periodically. When I used to pull all nighters with my friends(we really don't anymore), I'd have my buddy Pauly slap me around a bit, in a Viking sort of Way, every hour and a half or so. Also, if you have "long" hair(by that I mean not short; i.e., long enough to pull on), and a girl is nearby, let em pull your hair. Missy used to do that during our all nighters, and trust me, it pops your eyes open real fast.

Other than that, good luck.

If you're confident running extemporaneously, go for it. In high school the fact that our group would play all night Friday into Saturday every week was a given. Any plans I had were usually brought to completion well before we were done for the night. After that, we kept playing until we we tired, then we all slept, and when we got up, we got some breakfast and played some more. Those were the days. It might take some getting used to. When you've been up that long the "creativity" isn't exactly tempered with wisdom. In my early days we played one of our usual all-nighters, and then I had to go to work on no sleep. The first night went so well that the players elected me to run another the next night, as soon as I got out of work. This went fine, until I decided that the players found a really fast airship (the only airship in the world) in the dragon's hoard, and they then had total command of the world (I always made travel hard back then). At some point the fighter decided he wanted to be stronger. and asked how much wood he'd need to chop to do so. I said "1 year's worth". He scouted around for an island the size of Greenland and asked to be dropped off. The other players went flying around, sight seeing, Among the more interesting things they saw was a Titanic ...floating..................................................................................Baby. They shrugged this off and went back to the island. When they got there they saw that it was barren, except for thousands of cords of wood. The fighter was sitting there, tapping his foot. We called it a night. So yeah, sleep deprivation is fun.

Make DM's sludge----after the first pot of coffee is finished, dont throw away the grounds---just add the fresh grounds to the 'used' ones & perk away:D ----of course, in the dawn hours of the next mornin we were outside taking a break & watching nature do its thang---which led to this statement of revelation, "Like, Wow man, squirrels.":p

In my gaming groups, we called DM's Sludge Pa-pa-Pat(after the stuttering attempets to call over the guy who brewed it). As we were winding up, we were at about the 6th rebrew.

Well i've done this before and its great fun, tips i'd give are as follows.

1. Keep the background music lively but not blaring.
2. Take a half hour break every 4 hours for munchies and general chat, getting characters and room in order etc.
3. When ordering food make sure you do it before they close <chuckle>.time really does fly when your having fun on an all nighter.
4. Make sure everyone is able to get to where they need to be the following day, nothign worse than a player saying "er guys can I get a lift now I'm due at work in 10 mins" when its the first anyones heard of it.
5. Bright light, make sure you keep your room lit, nothing like half light for making people snooze.
6. Plan several lively encounters during the session, that way just when people think things have quietened down they suddenly have to get with it and keep the brain in gear.
7. Make sure there is a toilet nearby a bladder will only hold for so long LOL
8. Keep things moving be sure to keep all players involved in what is going on, make a conscious effort to check what every PC is doing on a regular basis.
9. Using Miniatures is another good way of keeping folks focused on an all nighter as it keeps thier attention focused on whats going on and thereby gives them less time for their minds to wander and to fall asleep.
10. Plenty of Caffeine, keep the coffee pot filled :)
