Spread over hundreds of raids.
As for individual raids go, the attacks of German bombers were a lot less severe than the RAF bombing of German cities where they only needed one raid to flatten everything.
Certainly.
I was wondering if the map showed bomblets or bombs. If bomblets were shown, there graphic could exaggerate the bombing.
Tokyo and Dresden are interesting comparisons:
Tokyo seems received at least 2.1K of ordnance (0.45K + 1.65K tons):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombing_of_Tokyo said:The first such raid was against Kobe on 4 February 1945. Tokyo was hit by incendiaries on 25 February 1945 when 174 B-29s flew a high altitude raid during daylight hours and destroyed around 643 acres (260 ha) (2.6 sq. km) of the snow-covered city, using 453.7 tons of mostly incendiaries with some fragmentation bombs.[8]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombing_of_Tokyo said:On the night of 9–10 March ("Operation Meetinghouse"),[9] 334 B-29s took off to raid with 279 of them dropping 1,665 tons of bombs on Tokyo.
Dresden received about 4K tons of ordnance:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombing_of_Dresden_in_World_War_II said:The bombing of Dresden was an American and British attack on the city of Dresden, the capital of the German state of Saxony, that took place in the final months of the Second World War in the European Theatre. In four raids between 13 and 15 February 1945, 722 heavy bombers of the British Royal Air Force (RAF) and 527 of the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) dropped more than 3,900 tons of high-explosive bombs and incendiary devices on the city.[1] The bombing and the resulting firestorm destroyed over 1,600 acres (6.5 km2) of the city centre.[2]
One striking datum is the number of bombers used in the raids. Dresden was the target of about 1250 bombers. That would be striking to see and hear.
Thx!
