Alone Against the Dark - Ironmaster's CoC game (IC)

Ringing the doorbell brings a woman younger than you expected to the door. Hair still brown, despite a few gray strands, neatly pinned up, a pleasant face, and a well-starched apron, she introduces herself.

Mrs Harding is amiable, but seems uncertain about letting you go to inspect her client's, Mr. Gliere's, room. "He's a very private man, you know, and I have a certain reputation to maintain, gentlemen. This is not a flophouse."

[OOC: Tell me how you want to go about getting into his room, and make any appropriate roll on Invisible Castle]

Shane introduces himself as a reporter for the Arkham Advertiser and then says, "Madam, I understand your reluctance to let us into his room. We know full-well how private Tibor is. After all, he is a very good friend of ours. He has, in fact, contacted us from Greece to ask for our assistance in a matter of much import. Therefore, he wouldn't mind too much if we were allowed into his room. Please madam, it is of utmost import."

OOC: Diplomacy roll on invisiblecastle was a whopping 5, with a +6 for Diplomacy that brings the total to 11. Unless you're giving me any bonus for my wonderful speech... :D

Antonio will wait to see what the woman will say.
If she still refuses to see the room, heàs going to ask her to have a word in private with her on the matter.
if she agrees on that, than, i'm going on with a spoiler! :P

"Maam, please, I'm Father Cromwell, from St. Michael's Parish."
OOC: If she recognizes him, he'll keep on:
"We were just wondering if we could go in. As my assosciate said, he asked us to himself."

OOC: If she doesn't he'll ask whoever has the telegram to show it to her.

Also, I got an 8 on my roll. I don't have Diplomacy, so that'll be +2 for my charisma, so... a 10.

Her eyes are wary, but she listens to Shane, and then the good Father. "I'm a good Unitarian. I suppose you mean St. Michael's down in the French district, on Lich Street. Of course. " She looks doubtful, but the telegram seems to do the trick.

"I suppose, if Mr. Gliere is really in trouble." She leads you up the stairs directly in front of the front door. A large amount of sunlight streams into the atrium, but the second floor is darker, quieter. Around a bannistered landing, and she unlocks a door with a key from her apron.

"This is Mr. Gliere's room, gentlemen." She gestures to the darkened room, whose curtains are drawn shut. In contrast to the rest of the room, the bed is neatly made. "I've only entered to change the linens, last week. Mr. Gliere has always left me with strict admonishments against disturbing his writings and collections." Her nose wrinkles in slight distaste. "You may find me downstairs if you need anything. Please close the door on your way out."

With a nod of her head, she walks to the stairs and descends.

Solari turns of a light on a bed stand, and you see the room is indeed in proper professorial confusion. Scattered about are books of myths and fables, and there are bundles of clippings from various foreign newspapers.

[OOC You may attempt checks on the following skills:

Intelligence Check
Knowledge (astronomy)
Knowledge (occult)
Research
Search
Spot

You may each make only one check at a time, so pick which one you will do, and make a roll. Remember, you can Aid each other, by making a check versus DC10 to add +2 to another character's check. You can work this out in character. A single check takes an hour.]

Wednesday, Sept.2, 1931 - 11am

[OOC Fenris, I hope you were not waiting on me! If that happens, post a note telling me you are waiting on me. I thought you were going to direct yourself to Harding House from Solari's house.]

Arriving at Solari's house, Professor Douglass is informed by the housekeeper that the Maestro is at Harding House, a boarding house on the north side of the Miskatonic, on the corner of Brown and West Hyde, not far from the Advertiser. A cute, dark-eyed little girl peeks around the woman's dress shyly. "Perhaps the Maestro is still there?"

Hopping in the car, you know that you can make it by lunch time, and sincerely hope that something can be found as a repast before class.

[OOC head on over to Harding House. Assume that Mrs. Harding conducts you upstairs. You can write that into your post. You will arrive at 12pm]

"Oh, my. Tibor has never been a neat person, but this goes over the top."
after a pause and a quick look of the room, Antonio says: "I think each of us should concentrate on different aspects of his search. I will look into the books of myths. Shane, I think you should look into the newspaper clippings. Father, maybe you should concentrate your efforts to find a diary, or some handwritten document. We are looking for information about his research, possible contacts in Greece, and any clue about his planned course of action when in Europe."

[OOC
I start looking into the books. I do a Knowledge (occult) roll... i get a 7: (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=161556). that means that the result is a 10. :(.
anyway, i should have a faint idea of the subject Tibor is researching, even if i don't find any illuminating clue).

If when I finish looking into the books father Cromwell is still busy looking around the room, I will join him.

Shane nods and begins leafing through the newspaper articles, looking for whatever might have caused Tibor to go overseas to Greece.

OOC: Research roll of 18 on invisiblecastle for a total of 24 (Research +6)

OOC: Ironmaster. Yes I was. But I have still been sick and so been reactive rather than proactive, as well as brief in my posts. Should be keeping up better now I hope.

There is a rap on the bedroom door and the startled searchers turn to find an older man starting at them in disapproval."Professor Solari, what is going on here? And who are these men? This is a university matter, not one for private individuals."

Antonio Solari turns to the door, as it open. The face of the old man staring at them is somewhat familiar, and yet he cannot place any name on it, nor remember where exactly he saw him. As the old man speaks, Antonio realises that the he is some kind of university figure, maybe a professor.

"Good morning, sir. I'm delighted you now my name and that you assign me to a higher post than that that I am holding now, but I am afraid I can't remember to have met you before. And, pray, also tell me, what is this matter you are talking about? And how do you know what we are doing here? And why are you assuming we shouldn't be doing it?"
