Alone Against the Dark - Ironmaster's CoC game (IC)

12:00 pm

"I am Professor Harold Douglass, I am in the Archeology Department. And I am here because I heard that damnfool Tibor has gotten himself into trouble again, and instead of going through standard university channels to resolve it he has contacted you directly. I will not stand by and allow him to embarrass this univeristy. And now my Dear Professor, who are your accomplices?"

Antonio looks Harold in the eyes, probably trying to weighting his words. For a few seconds it seems that Antonio is about to yield, but then a sudden fire lights up his eyes.

"My dear professor Douglass, as I have already told you, I am not a professor myself. Having said that, I don't know what you are talking about. It seems to me that your tone of your speech is rather inappropriate to the circumstance. You are making vague references to 'university matters' and 'embarassment', which I am not sure I understand. On the other hand you are not restraining yourself from calling my friends 'accomplices'... are you implying that we are thieves? If that is the case, I believe I have nothing else to say to you. Have a good day. Please close the door when you leave, as we don't want to be disturbed."

"Mr. Solari, then if you prefer. I am sorry you do not fully understand English, but the word accomplice means others who aid. Do not place infered or implied meanings in my mouth sir. Nor will I leave. As you have said you are not a professor, and Tibors notes are the intellecual property of the university so perhaps you should be the one to leave?"

Antonio's lips open into a smile. The strange light in his eyes is not gone, but he seems a bit more malleable.

"Very well, professor. I stand corrected. Despite all of my years in this country, I am not ashamed to say that my command of your language is still uneasy. Mathematics do not depend on any mundane language to be studied and understood, thankfully. I apology for my words, then.
On the other hand, you understand that, for that very need of preventing any scandal that you yourself are advocating, I must make sure that you really are who you claim to be. I have proof of my own identity with me, but before showing them to you, I need to know the previous colour of the tapestries of the rooms of the top floor of the main library building. As you know, only university personnel can access that floor, and there has been a renovation last summer. So only a genuine professor from the Arkham University would know the answer to my question."

Harold Douglass seems unhappy to reply, but he sees the need to do so. "The colour was yellow. It has now been changed to red and light blue, as a sign of gratitude to a Mr. Rubbersfield, who donated the money necessary to renovate the whole building." he says, a bit grumpily. "I hope this in enough to placate your curiosity".

Antonio is openly smiling now. He tends his right hand to Harold.
"Well, nice to meet you, professor. I am Antonio Solari, a PhD student from the department of Mathematics. Here is my passport to prove so.
I received a communication from Tibor, yesterday. He said he was in need of help, in Greece. We don't know what happened, but we know that he wanted me to join him there soon. I've known him for years and despite I found it strange that he contacted me, instead of one of the professors in his department, I thought that maybe the problem he is in is not serious enough to bother people in the highest posts.
For a coincidence, Mr. Shane Douglas, an old friend of both, was in my room when I received the communication, and we both decided to pay a visit here, this morning, before deciding what to do.
I received mandate from the dean of the university to take care of this business, and he didn't suggest to contact anyone else from the university. The dean also agreed to have Mr. Douglas along with me in my trip to Greece. He is a reporter, and he has agreed on his honour to publish this story in a way that will leave the University out of any scandal that might be happening. I can guarantee for him.
As for Father Cromwell, the gentleman on my right, I called him here to discuss the matter further. He knows Tibor ever since he was a child, and, as a man of the church, his respectability is above questions.
I don't know how you managed to know about Tibor and his problems in Greece. Maybe you could shed some light on the purpose of his journey. This was one of the reasons why we came here in the first place. I will gladly share with you all the information we have, but you must agree on your honour to keep the information to yourself. As you can see, news spread fast even when care is taken to keep it secret. The last thing we all want, I am sure, is some newspaper to publish some fantasy story about University personnel being in captivity in Europe for God knows what reason. That would be a hard blow to the credibility of the University."

Having said that, Antonio proceeds telling Harold every piece of information he managed to recorver in the hour long search of the books.
After that, he listen carefully to what Shane and Father Cromwell have found, and then turns to Harold, asking him if he can add some inshight to the information we posses.

I don't mention nor show the telegram. If neither Shane nor father Cromwell do, I'll keep it to myself

Father Cromwell looks around the room, searching for anything that could give him a clue to what Tibor is doing. He reads through some of the booksthere, and tries to make out what they mean.

OOC: Search was a 12, Knowledge: Occult a 14, and Research an 8.

This is assuming he has enough time to do all three. If not, then just the Knowledge one.

Shane watches the exchange between Douglass and Antonio without a word. He remains quiet throughout, and does not mention the telegram. He will continue to look through the news clippings as he had been when Douglass entered the room. He has no intention of leaving and will refuse to leave if asked to do so by Douglass.

OOC: Still researching the news clippings using the Research total of 24 rolled earlier.

Wednesday, Sept.2, 1931 - 12pm Harding House

Antonio Solari: Knowledge (occult) 10
Father Cromwell: Search 12
Shane Douglass: Research 24

Solari manages to find an immense bundle of personal notes and papers, tied together with twine, and others scattered about under the table, but has yet to find any sense to the notes, either in chronology, logic, order, subject, or even legibility. Many of the writings are completely encoded in either very sloppy handwriting, or some fragmentary nonsense of some sort. It will take more time to attempt a rational, coherent perusal of the material. Perhaps, ordering up some coffee and sandwiches might not be a bad idea.

Father Cromwell has started looking through the bookcases, clotted with wads of paper, folded maps of all kinds, dog-eared publications in Cyrillic letters, and even a mold-encrusted roll with rancid butter bleeding through a lithograph of a red poster exclaiming "Tranne in lotta, ci non è la più bellezza". The poster art is some horrible compilation of blurred images, suggesting the viewer moving at intense speeds. Father Cromwell knows he has yet to scratch the surface of the mess before him.

Shane rumages through a series of intact newspapers off to one side.

[OOC:You can each make one new roll if you wish to spend another hour here. If you rolled too many times before, you should re-roll a new time, now.]

Highlight the hidden print...
Shane finds a book wrapped among sheaves of yellowed newspapers, a leatherbound book entitled 'Nameless Cults'. The black finish is rubbed off along the edges, and the corner bumps are horrid to behold, especiallly to a man who holds the written word so dear. The publisher is emblazoned in gold along the spine, Golden Goblin Press, and the author is listed as a 'von Juntz'. You thumb through it--vile stuff, you decide, but something about this book alarms and fascinates you. You could just tuck it in your jacket, and no one would be the wiser, or you could tell the others about it.

For Ironmaster:
[sblock]Shane will tuck the book into his jacket, planning to show it to Antonio and maybe Father Cromwell later. He didn't know the newcomer, Harold Douglass, well enough and still wasn't confident that the man would prove to be a friend or a foe to them so he figured it was better to keep the book tucked safely away until he, Antonio and the good Father had a chance to better inspect it.[/sblock]
