Alter Self and Small Creatures

I'm looking for a small humanoid with a good natural armour bonus to alter self into. I know my character could become a medium creature, I just don't want to. Any suggestions?

A gnome rogue I played once had an interesting encounter with an earth mephit, and frequently took his form once he obtained a wand of Alter Self. Extremely, extremely useful. +6 natural armor and a 40ft. fly speed.

Had your gnome rogue Type: outsider for some reason (e.g., half-fiend template or something), or were you playing under some other rules set than 3.5?
'cause in 3.5 you can only alter self into creatures of the same type as your normal type.

hmm, Derro are unforunatly Monsterous Humanoid.

We use anything wizards or from dragon magazine but thats about it.
