Green Ronin had alternatives of all 3 core books that were suppossed to come out this summer but got dleayed. I haven't heard anything on them in months.
Per Chris Pramas The Advanced Player's Manual is now slated to be released this month (Sept) and the Advanced Game Master's guide was pushed back to November.

I would suggest that WotCs "Unearthed Arcana" would be the DMG variant you are asking about.
Well that, and some selection from the hundreds of other rule books out there. Just take your pick....

I agree with Jester47 also. I can't remember the last time I used the DMG. But I get lots of use from MMS:WE, Toolbox, BOEM2, and probably 10 others on a regular basis, depending on the inspiration I'm looking for at the time.

I wrote underwear and I meant underwear.

Besides, all these rules are scattered around in different book. It would be more useful if they were in one book.

So what you're looking for is some kind of "brief" guide to DMing?

That is incredibly funny. Thong & Thilence. What's next? The Complete _______?

Getting back to the original topic, it would be interesting to see an alternate take, but then again Monte was the primary writer on the 3.0 DMG. I refer to it a lot for two sections: environments and conditions (like shaken.) So how would he write an alternate?

Actually, I was hoping he would redo magic items for the Diamond Throne. MCAU campaigns are stuck with the normal DMG's magic items and that breaks the feel a bit for me. DT should not have people running around with Belts of Giant Strength. I don't have the time to redo 30-50 pages of magic item the MCAU way but it would be nice if someone did. Certainly there are no holy/unholy weapons in DT. Can't have a potion of Bull's Strength with a bull's strength spell. Etc. (Especially disappointing since he redid the item creation feats.)

As for the rest of the DMG. How often do you need to reference it anyway. Experience, treasure, environment stuff, and the occasional village are all I ever really use it for. But it's 90% the first two listed items and 10% the rest of the book.
