Alternate Favored Enemy class ability

First Post
This is an alternative class feature for the Ranger's Favored Enemy. It's been sorta-not-really balanced for my higher-power level campaign, but I'm looking for feedback. Much appreciated.

Favored Enemy Alternative Class Feature: Swift Hunter (Ex):
Whenever the ranger would gain FE, he instead gains a cumulative +5ft increase in his base speeds, or +1d4 precision damage whenever he meets sneak attack requirements or skirmish requirements (target denied Dex or flat-footed, or ranger moves 10ft+) and can clearly see and reach the target creature, but no range limit (because FE has no range limit, and it will be less total damage).
Applies only when in light/no armor, and carrying no more than a light load.

Perhaps one or the other (i.e., choose one and keep going with it). IMO, of course.

Also, what about either skirmish or sneak attack (or perhaps sudden strike instead of the latter). .? I'm really not sure about the lack of range requirement, either.

Having it less than the usual d6 might not be a problem, I guess. But it could be more hassle than it's worth, in the end. Maybe something different could be substituted at 1st, then skirmish or sudden strike (f'rex) could kick in at 5th, 10th, 15th and 20th. Just a thought.

Perhaps that small speed increase (+5') could sub at level 1. Not sure what would work here.

Would these abilities (if kept more to your original design) count for the usual prereq purposes (e.g., for feats and prestige classes) ? That's one kind of issue that might make things a bit messy, I was thinking.

I'd allow Sneak Attack (or Skirmish dice) in place of Combat Style, so you'd get at most +3d6 from them.

Giving sneak attack dice to a guy who already gets the full TWF chain for free is just too strong IMHO.

Also, frankly, the Ranger is already super-strong for a one level dip. So I'd try to keep the bonus something highly situational (like Favored Enemy).

Here's what I'd allow:

Swift Hunter - in place of Favored Enemy, a Ranger gains these benefits at the indicated levels:
1/ +2 Dodge bonus to AC vs. attacks of opportunity
5/ +10 ft. movement
10/ +1d6 Skirmish damage (when you move 10 ft. or more)
15/ you gain Concealment against AoOs when in natural terrain
20/ +2d6 Skirmish damage

Cheers, -- N
