Alternate OBI?

About a year or so ago I ran across a website that had an alternate Order of the Bow Initiate prestige class (although it may have been called something different). Unfortunately at the time I wasn't playing D&D, so although it was interesting to me I did not bookmark or save it in anyway.

Our group is finally back together and playing D&D again. I've dusted off my favorite Ranger and as he begins climbing into the 4th and 5th levels I find myself thinking of ways to make him a better archer. So the search for 'stuff' has begun. Can anyone point me to some good sites with ranger and/or archer prestige classes to help spark some ideas? I haven't found much by googling yet.

EDIT: or any books, either print or PDF, for archer types?

Cheers.

Check out my very own Three Arrows for the King, the Archer's Guide (available from RPGnow for only $1 via the ENPublishing $1 sale!).

It includes an OBI-like class by none other than Hong from these boards, as well as a pile of other archery goodness.

I'll second that. It's quality stuff. And for a buck, you simply MUST go buy it. Go on...what are you waiting for? It'll be worth it, I promise.

And HellHound, nice job.

What exactly are you looking for in terms of a prestige class? There are 4 in the basic and WoTC splat books. Aside from the OoBI there are the arcane archer (avoid in my opinion - simply too weak), the Deepwoods Sniper (Masters of the Wild) and the Peerless Archer (Forgoten Realms source book - The Silver Marches). The DWS primarily adds improved crit abilites, enhanced bow ranges and the ability to ignore some measure of cover. Frankly between the OoBI and DWS they cover a fearsome array of abilities until you are well into epic levels.

The peerless archer however is not one I could recomend any DM should permit in a campaign. It adds some seriously over powered abilities, such as ranged power attack and IIRC the ability to threaten AoOs at range. Either ability is one I would hesitate to permit any archer to have in a campaign and tend to be common features of a lot of the Non-WoTC products.

Check out the complete Warrior for some ranged weapon prestige classes. They've got a revised OBI, and a few other ranged weapon types.

I've updated my Zen archer d00d since the publication of 3AftK. Find it here:

The new Order of the Bow initiate in Complete Warrior actually has a very similar schtick to my class. As written it's rather weak; I can see that they might want to reduce the cheese from the 3.0 OotBI, but they went a bit too far IMO. However, if you also allow something like a Called Shot feat that lets them pump up the damage with their ranged precision shot, then it might become pretty good. See here:

Thanks, HellHound. Got it, love it. Can't wait to put it in to use.

To be honest, I did hesitate a bit at first. I have not bought any PDF products thus far, thinking that all gaming books I buy must be made of paper. But hey, for only a buck, what did I have to lose? Boy, am I glad I bought it. The quality is better than some of the print products I have wasted my money on over the years!
