Shadowdark Alternate Shadowdark Paladin: Looking for Ideas

An ability that came to mind (I have no idea about balancing, I am all vibes):

The paladin spends a luck token, thrusts their weapon into the ground before them, and kneels in prayer.
While praying, the paladin shakes of an amount of DMG dice/spell levels equal to his level.

Maybe have a talent on level up allowing to expand it to another PC.

Interesting. What comes to mind is some kind of protective shield, in a radius, not damage. Requires full attention (no action, no movement, weapon stays planted) to maintain it round to round. And it drains them every round...

So kind of like a D&D Aura, but active and expensive, not passive and free.

I feel like the negative reaction roll is a cool idea, but you could add an element of choice. If you had an aura that was good, but, if on, triggers the negative reaction roll, and if triggered after the reaction roll reads as a sneak attack, you'd have a really interesting decision point. Stay hidden or reveal myself? That tracks with the jedi thing you're going for.

Protection from Evil powered by HP? Something like that?

I don’t know 5Ed. Does it have some kind of Fatigue mechanic? If it does, that would be a good way to power that aura.

(I had a HR in 3.5Ed using the fatigue mechanics for magical energy drain instead of level loss. Easier to track; felt like energy draining.)

So the paladin acts as noted, erecting the PoE aura. The longer the paladin maintains the aura, the higher the chance he could become fatigued. At some point, if he becomes fatigued enough, the aura falls.

There isn't a good one, but the usage die mechanic would do that same job.

Another interesting idea would be to tie it to the torch timer. Some people will hate the idea as meta, but it could be cool.
