Regarding variety, Dresden Files organized very different kinds of vampires into separate factions. The Red were classic bat-polymorphing Draculesque, the White were hypersexual psyche-draining cool kids, if I recall correctly, there was also a more monstrous ghoulish Nosferatuesque, and others.
