Alternative Currency Names

Imperial British Coinage (lost only thirty years ago to decimalisation) is fun, simply because it isn't a decimal system. Even more fun if you add slang and ancient coins.

farthing = one quarter of a penny
ha'penny = one half of a penny
penny (from now on abbreviated [d] (because it was originally denari))
groat = 4d
tanner = 6d
shilling (s) = 12d (coin also known as a 'bob')
florin = 24d (2s)
half crown = 30d
crown = 60d (5s)
pound (£) = 240d (20s) (aka a quid)
guinea = 252d (21s, or £1/1/-)

Cronar, Domar, Diamond-in-Amber Glulditch, Pence, Penny, Rallod, Yen, etc. (as well as naming coins for what's on them; Dragons, Merchants, Wheels, Yaks, Zebras, ad nauseum)!

Any list of real currency will give you hundreds of names that you can adopt/steal.

I have an idea for a campaign where money is actually magical power in a portable form. So:
10 motes = 1 thaum
10 thaums= 1 star= 1 gp
10 stars= 1 comet
