Alternative Firearms rules? [4e]

Careful attack+True arrow style feat allows to make a ranged basic attack if the initial attack misses, in exchange for granting combat advantage on attacker for a turn. Now imagine that initial grenade missed, say, 3 targets in burst 1... suddenly there're 3 more grenades incoming.

You can't take more than one free action attack per turn:

" A creature can take a free action to use an attack power only once per turn. Creatures don’t normally have attack powers that can be used as free actions, but some powers and other effects grant the ability to use an attack power (usually a basic attack) as a free action."

I'd probably just rule that grenades are not ranged weapons, per se, but a special attack akin to using a consumable magic item like Alchemist's Fire. I haven't introduced grenades into my game yet, though, so I haven't scoured the Zeitgeist rules on them. If that scuttles your player's character concept, obviously you'd want to find a middle ground.

Oooh, nice catch. It's actually in Rule Compendium, now that I have an idea on where to look for it.
The description of grenades specifically states that they can be used with multi-[W] attacks, so the idea was for them NOT to be just another alchemical item (cause, let's be honest, ~90% of alchemical items are awful)
