Interesting thread and concept...great looking cards too...does anyone know of any product besides Adobe that one can use to make cards like these?...I don't have any of the Adobe products and don't see spending their $ for just making cards. Thank you.

Almost anything can work. With some fiddling you could even use Word or similar. If you search, there may even be a template floating around to help.

Another option is to use some of the Magic:TG card generating websites, or maybe the Meme generating websites.

Or go old-skool and just cut out pictures and glue them to another card or backing.

Thanks Core for the input,,yes, I was thinking about using Word and/or Open Office to create something..I've a good inkjet and laser printer and a laminator...just not Adobe products..lol..And those MTG card sites would definitely work.

Something else one can do to add some "life" to the game is to add a Critical Hit and Critical Fail card to the stack. Here's an example of something I'm going to run my player through soon.

EX:
4 players encounter 4 Hobgoblins.
I'm going to add the 4 player cards and 4 cards for the HG's.(I prefer to use individual cards for monsters). Then I'm going to add 1 Crit Fail and 1 Crit Hit card. These critical cards apply to the next creature/player drawn...not using the additional cards for DEX modifiers.

Darvel the Fighter's card is drawn, he takes his action; next card drawn is the Crit Hit. Draw the next card and it's a Hobgoblin. He automatically gets a Crit Hit on whoever he's attacking...(continue drawing).

One could create/add so many variable cards to this form of initiative if you want to liven things up...you could add +1 cards for attack bonus, damage, saving throws, wild magic surge, etc.

It's not a bad idea actually. If you lay down a "Special Attack" card, the next PC or Monster pulled gets advantage of that card. I made one actually that would cover random effects like that.

Be aware though that by adding Critical Hit and Failures to cards like that, you are by FAR increasing the odds of this happening to the PCs, above and beyond the normal 5% of rolling a 20. Or monsters. You're guaranteeing a crit and fumble every single round actually. I think you should keep it to much more minor effects and just have a random chart you roll on when the card comes up. +1 to hit or damage, Advantage/Disadvantage, +10 feet of movement, +1 saves until your next turn, etc.

Good point Nebulous...and there are so many extra variables one can add to this "system"...like the card above, your suggestion of having a chart to roll on for the effect..I guess the main thing is it's an interesting concept to use and add some "homebrew" to spice it up.
