Yuck, plastic minis *twitches* the look so....cheap. And they feel so...cheap. Well they are cheap, true that...

Randomized or not, plastic minis are just not my thing. Did I mention they look cheap?

I have always been partial to using leggo sets.

The "Medieval" and "Harry Potter" kits have lots of useful stuff in it.

And with leggo, you can build stuff for your games!

I think plastic minis that are well done can look fine... it is the paint job that matters. You can certainly see plenty of nice looking plastic minis from the Games Workshop folks - but, you have to paint them yourself.

I just haven't bought any WotC minis because the ones I have seen were not well painted, and I don't like the randomized idea.

While I'm not a big purchaser of miniatures, I'd consider it strongly if good quality and well-priced miniatures came on the market, with quality being more important. Low prices are easy to achieve if the numbers are high enough. As a father who buys plastic animals for his toddler, I'd much rather buy a more expensive one than a rubbish cheap one. Of course, if I play a Druid, those animals are really useful! :)

I agree. There is nothing that will ever look better on a table then a well painted metal mini. But with trying to raise a kid and other responsibilites, I just don't have the time anymore.

OK. So if a new line of miniatures was released that looked just as good but you could pick and choose what you wanted, would you buy them? Do you normally use miniatures for your games? If so which ones?

I voted maybe just so long as they were D&D specific.

If I want a box of skeletons or the like, I'll purchase them from Games Workshop as I've yet to see miniatures that even come close to their range of products.

I would absoluely love some pre-painted durable non-random plastic minis. However, I would certainly suggest focusing on minis that are not common or uncommon in the WotC sets because, quite frankly, these can be found very inexpensively on e-bay or other sellers of individual miniatures. (You can usually get a set of 6 common minis for under $3 on e-bay - sometimes even less.)

As for the price, that's not as much an issue with me for impressive figures. I know I would purchase monster minis (as opposed to PC-type minis), especially in the huge, garganutuan, and colossal sizes in a heartbeat.

I definitely would buy non-randomized minis. As much as I like the WotC minis, it's a pain if there is a particular one you need (although there is ebay).

What annoys me even more than the randomization is the Common/Uncommon/Rare insanity. If I run an encounter with an otyugh, I want to be able to go buy an otyugh.

I said the same thing about the Harbinger set but the newer sets are much nicer.

Yeah. I hate the random packaging thing with a passion. I swore off Magic a few years ago, and the only randomly packed game I am interested in at all is Pirates of the Spanish Main, and don't have any interest in collecting all of the ships for that. Plus, I do not, and likely will not, play the miniatures game. So yeah, sure, I certainly give them some consideration. I'm currently eyeballing the e4m plastic minis that Crystal Caste is distributing. Only problem is that I already have a bunch of metal Dwarves and Goblins.
