Alternity 2e Wish List

Who says they do the same thing? Did you read the link I posted?

That link is about skill synergies and advanced skills. If discussion about feats and rank benefits is buried somewhere in that thread I'm certainly not going to read all 5 pages of posts.

Under the current rules 3 ranks in Ranged Weapons-Pistol grants the quick draw rank benefit. Your suggestion is to make that rank benefit optional. I'm assuming it would cost skill points to purchase that ability, otherwise why in the world wouldn't someone take it? Suppose it costs 3 sp's, how is that different than a quick draw feat that accomplishes the same thing and costs the same 3sp's? Removing rank benefits from the skill section and creating a combined feat section that includes what is now split up among rank benefits, achievements, and perks is a far more organized approach and easier for the player.

I think it would be a good strategy for any sci fi RPG released by WotC to be back-compatible with the most popular space opera out there. That way they keep the Star Wars fans as well as any new alternity fans. I'm not saying they need to have Jedi and Stormtroopers. But Soldiers, Nobles, Scoundrels and Scouts are generic enough for any game.

There seems to be a lot of confusion in this thread on what Alternity is. Alternity is the GAME ENGINE. Star*Drive, Dark Matter, Gamma World, and Star Craft were the CAMPAIGNS released for Alternity. If you create a game that's backwards compatible with Star Wars Saga or SWRCR then it's D20, not Alternity. If you create a D20 Star*Drive setting, that doesn't make it Alternity anymore than it's GURPS.

Exactly. Also, I personally would hate to see a d20 StarDrive. I just don't think it would have the same feel as the Alternity version. Though I would buy it to savage for Alternity all the same.

That is what you get for not reading the thread. The existing rank benefits aren't affected. Optional rank benefits are new abilities.

If a project like this were to get made I really would like to see the game greatly simplified (as that seems to be were the market is) and allow easily tacked on settings. Adding lots of bells and whistles through the campaign settings.

There has already been a D20 Star*Drive setting in D20 Future. Just not done as in depth as the original campaign setting (pretty small write-up actually). Personally though, I wouldn't mind if it was done as D20, as long as it was done thoroughly (like the original).

But, IMO, editionless would be better. That way the entire Universe can use and enjoy the awesomeness that is Star*Drive!

:D

Star*Drive was to Alternity as Greyhawk was to 3.x, by which I mean it was the default setting with most references in the books referring to it. I'm a big fan of edition free campaigns and believe Green Ronin's Freeport is the best example to prove it works. Unfortunately since it's a WotC IP we'll never see that happen. Though a 4e modern/future campaign might be possible.

I'd also like to see a campaign book, with each chapter dedicated to a different progress level. The chapter's as I'd prefer:

PL 0: 10,000 B.C. (as in the movie)
PL 1: Mythic Greece
PL 2: Lord of the Rings (like that'd ever happen)
PL 3: Swashbuckling Adventures
PL 4: Old West Adventures (optionally A World at War.)
PL 5: Dark Matter
PL 6: Cybertech
PL 7: Star*Drive
PL 8: Star Wars (another yeah, right)
PL 9: ??????

Each chapter would be about 20 pages and contain a campaign overview, equipment tables, and customized skill/feat tables.

I don't know about covering every PL as from our own history PLs tend to overlap and continue to exist for quite awhile after the introduction of the new one. I think it would be better to choose different periods to address in the setting for each chapter or section and then possibly provide details about the surrounding PLs.

Right, I forgot about the massive 4 pages of material in d20 future.
