I hope its ok to post this... if not definatly remove it - but im trying to be helpful to the community.

Amazon.Com has alot if not all of the WOTC DnD products on sale right now - 30% off and free shipping with a purchase of 20 bucks or more i think (maybe 30 bucks).

Either way, I just stocked up on about 4 books that I had previously skipped because they were 40 bucks.

Thanks,

Kristov

Yeah, I pre-ordered three WotC books a while back when they started that. I also had a 5 dollar off "e-coupon". And you only get the free shipping when you click "group items together into as few shipments as possible" and I did, figuring I could wait... then it said "minimum 3". So... I'll be getting my MM2, BoVD, and d20M shortly after they come out, all shipped free, 30% off, AND another 5 bucks off... not bad..

67 bucks for those three books, shipped, isn't bad at all. Just two of them off of the shelf would run more than that...

Amazon also has many of Mongoose's books at 30% off as well.

It really helps out those of us without a FLGS...

Ah, but it's so poisonous to those of us who have one...I'm always tempted to go the Amazon way, but I bravely turn my back on the fat discounts in favor of supporting my little hole-in-the-wall hobby shop. I've been going there for years, and they all know me by name. Amazon just can't beat that sort of service.

Well, the upside of Amazon is that I save more money that can be used for even MORE books. This is an expensive hobby, and while I don't NEED everything I buy, there's so much I want.

That said, I do buy a lot of things from "friendly local internet gaming stores"... Though I've had some bad experiences with two of them. FRP Games is the only one thus far that didn't make me wait forever for something. I understand that sometimes things happen, but FIVE MONTHS for a few Kalamar modules is rediculous... But if it's only a few bucks difference, I'll use FRP Games. If it's THIRTY bucks, Amazon all the way.

Don't forget buy.com. They may not have deals like the Epic Level book for $14 shipped, but if they have it in stock they are cheaper then amazon.com or you can pricematch amazon.com. I just got Oriental Adventures, Relics and Rituals 2, and Manual of the Planes for $52 I think...damned good deal.

Personaly, I only find the savings worth it when I am looking at buying more then one book at a time.

Right now, I can only look at one book a month or so. Since that is the case, I like going to one my local stores to get a copy. Also I can look at a few different choices and browse.

Amazon (and other net-based stores) are only good when I know, "I want book X"

There is a lot of stuff that amazon does not sell at discounts, namely, Monsternomicon, FF stuff, Atlas Stuff and lots of other things. When I want somthing that does not have an amazon discount or amazon does not carry it, I go to the indep. local guys.

Oh yeah, I love Amazon's 30% and free shipping. Thats where I now go if I want to purchase non-3rd party D&D stuff.

If my local Comic/RPG store did have at least decent service, I'd probably go there more often...but now I only go there if I want to buy something 3rd party or to look to see if a certain book is out yet.

Actually, Amazon greets you by name as well. And its technology is probably much better at recommending new books/music/dvds/games (based on your browsing habits and past purchases) than Comic Book Guy.

And, for those who live in Seattle, Amazon *is* a FLGS.

Plus, the Amazon reviews of the PHB and DMG show that the author is a fellow gamer--just like your Comic Book Guy. :)

PS: besides, if any game store is in need of support, its profit-less Amazon ;)

Not to mention those with. I'm all for supporting local business, but when it comes to saving serious bucks on something, I'm going to take the savings. The guy who runs my local comic/game shop took issue with my attitude, but I was quite frank with him: I buy stuff because I want it, and I save money because I don't have much of it. When I have Bill Gates's bucks, then I'll shop full-price, but until then...that's capitalism.
