Amazon Sale of DnD Products

Not to mention those with. I'm all for supporting local business, but when it comes to saving serious bucks on something, I'm going to take the savings. The guy who runs my local comic/game shop took issue with my attitude, but I was quite frank with him: I buy stuff because I want it, and I save money because I don't have much of it. When I have Bill Gates's bucks, then I'll shop full-price, but until then...that's capitalism.

I have sympathy for your position, but will you say "hey, that's capitalism" when the hobby shrinks because local stores aren't around to create a new network of gamers every year?

I'm not predicting anything, I'm just saying that the effects of "capitalism" go beyond your wallet.

By the way, I'm 100% capitalist, don't read otherwise in the above statement. :D

I've used/use Amazon on occassion as they have some good deals on some stuff. Part of the problem is that many hobby stores will not discount even the old out of print books. I love Games Plus but man, give up that Dark Matter, Cyberpunk, and Avalon Hill Runequest at a discount already eh? :D

The bad part though is they don't always get the books on time. The also list the books wrong frequently and dont' seem to carry all of the lines.

Books A Million (BAM) seems to have a lot of stuff including Alderac Entertainment.

? Thanks to Amazon, every single person in the world with a mailing address has access to the hobby. Now, they don't need to try to find the hole-in-the-wall hobby shop, or search the crummy RPG sections of the giant dirt book stores (Barnes & Noble, etc.). Just click click click (actually, just "click") and the books come to your door. :)

As for the network of gamers: huh? How many gamers have you met through the local hobby store? How many have you met in chat rooms, Yahoo Groups, this board, or conventions? Hmmm...

I'm not anti- dirt game stores, I'm just pro- online game stores. In my book, saving me money and getting more games to more gamers = good thing.

PS: My local dirt game store is Cardhaus games. Sure, they do retail sales. But the majority of the store is devoted to tables for local gaming, RPGA gaming, tournaments, and other events. That's what dirt game stores need to morph into. They need to change from simple retailers to RPG community centers.

buy.com has a more limited stock, but almost everything is Free Shipping no matter how much money you spend AND it's guaranteed to be 10% less than amazon.com!

You have to remember that there is a big difference between a local chain hobby store and a local mom and pop shop. Whenever possible I prefer to patronise a Mom and Pop. However, if I get a fat discount, mom and pop go out the window for whatever is discounted. The reason for this is because I am dirt poor. When I am stable, I will be sure to spread the wealth and shop at Mom and Pop exclusively. Unless that security is coming from a shop I own... [Lord I hope not]

This is an expensive hobby, and while I don't NEED everything I buy, there's so much I want.

You misspelled "cheap". Compare RPGing to almost any other hobby and RPGs are ridiculously inexpensive by comparison.

Ah well game shops in the UK could be safe since Amazon.co.uk never seems to discount more than they charge for postage and packing over here, and rarely deliver on time, from experience.

the FLGS new me is not local, nor friendly. Not much of a gaming store either.

I stopped in for Secret College of Necromancer, he said they had gotten some in, but wasn't sure where they were. Couldn't look for them either apparently.

3 weeks later, I asked again, and got "that's not out yet I think" from the same guy. I liked the store because you can see a bunch of stuff from different makers, but they're not upholding that end of the bargain.

Now that www.stiggybaby.com is doing Green Ronin I'll use them. I already do for Shadowrun. I've got some Fantasy Flight stuff on order from Buy.com too.

Locally, I have a discount card from Waldenbooks. They're good for regular D&D stuff. Ordering other stuff takes forever, if they even manage to get it at all.

RPHShop takes way too long to ship. I got tired of it taking forever.

Well, that and the 20+ dollars a week I spend on comic books.

Fortunately I don't drink or smoke, or else my wife would send me packing. :D

My 150$ Amazon gift certificate makes a Price attack at +150/+145/+140/+135 melee, hitting your skimpy amazon coupons for 1d6+150$ each time! Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

More seriously, I too have taken advantage of these new sales (pre-ordered Modern and some other stuff), and considerabely maimed above gift certificate.
