MYTHAGO, would your first name be John?
The two-point strategy is a good one, but not without drawbacks:
1) It gives other players an idea on where you stand, attributes-wise.
2) You lose flexibility: you cannot sell down an attribute later on to Chaosian level if you really really feel the need (never sell an attribute down to Human level, though... *shiver*). This will criple you, Cedric, if you want to bid on Endurance. If you feel like bidding on Psyche (since you want a powers-centered character), it is not so much of a problem, since it is (unless your GM changes that) the first attribute auctioned. You can still seize an opportunity, if nobody feels like investing there; though in my experience, the attributes's popularity ranks them in that order: Warfare, Psyche, Endurance, Strength.
Twice, in two different groups (one of 5, the other of 4 players), I succeeded in ranking first in both Psyche and Endurance. I got that by having little talks with the other players beforehand.
Back to your game: if you want a trump card, an Amber Devotee is a good choice; but it also means less freedom (someone too concerned about your safety can be a bother). Having some Good Stuff is a good idea, above all if everyone else ends buying Bad Stuff. Let fate favor you.
