Amethyst - New campaign setting

I'm definately ordering the hardcover, the price is decent and from what i've seen of it, looks awesome. The only problem is that I've currently no space to put the book, my last place to pile books just topped 75 cm is is looking very unstable (those Accordlands books are huge). And the place I just cleared out for gaming storage just filled up with nine boxes of HeroScape (going to be used for BattleTech). I need more room for cool gaming products ;-)

I'll try to remember to post pictures of the hardcover when I'll get it.

Once again, I am quite impressed...

Thanks for the comments.

It should also be noted, due to the recent WOTC announcement, we have reduced the price of all versions of the book.

The artwork and layout looks very tempting.

The theme isn't so bad, either. But I am not sure I like the magic / tech asymmetry - magic can break tech, but not vice versa?

And do Techans and Echans work together? Or are they at odds with each other?

For the last 1000 years, it's been a losing battle for technology. It's too limited because it MUST follow scientific laws to resist a force that dances in the face of those laws. However, that is not to say wheels are not turning. Currently, the only way for tech to win is to remove magic by expulsion of magic emanating objects or creatures from an area. Certain bastions, home of the smartest minds and the highest technological level, are working on the situation. They are attempting to create anti-magic fields which suppress enchantment and even prove harmful to magic creatures that enter these regions. They are hoping to have a prototype soon.

Amethyst has a progressing story, in case you were wondering.

As for techans and echans working together, it can happen, but it would be difficult. They would have to keep a distance or the techan will have to ensure his gear is simple enough to resist disruption (the higher the tech, the lower the survivability). They are at odds but not in a violent way. They have reached a stalemate. Neither desires the other's existence. Defections occur often but there is no war. Most bastions are xenophobic but exceptions have been known to occur. Gimfen (Gnomes) helped York design their robotic force and Selkirk trades often with the Narros (dwarves). However, more often than not, the two worlds do not mix.

The staff review posted on RPG now wrapped it up nicely here:

I hope that answers your questions...

It still sounds tempting, especially given the review. (Great Artwork, a setting that feels alive? I am intrigued...)

There are still two problems:
- Now I just need to find a print copy in Germany.
- I'd really prefer a 4E D&D version...

We do print on demand and there is a printer in Spain, so they deliver relatively quickly. I received word from a customer in Finland who received his HC in only three weeks.

Also, considering Amethyst is a techno / fantasy, we may not be able to get around the fantasy-online stipulation to the new 4.0 rules until they make a D20 modern SRD. Further, we are growing more pessimistic about 4.0's capacity to be compatible with our interests and we are investigating options for the future.

As a finn myself I was wondering would it be even possible to get here. Nice to hear that. Now I'm even more interested in getting this. Have to start setting some money aside.
