Not so much, actually. Wood rots exceptionally slowly in anaerobic conditions. Same reason one finds thousand-year-old bodies buried in bogs occasionally.Moreso, rot. Also, it would likely attract barnacles that if left unchecked could accelerate rot and compromise the structure through sheer weight.
