An E6 Setting

Well, in an E6 world lacking the high level divinations, reliable census data is probably hard to come by. I could see the humanoid lands being a lot like Hyperboria to the Greeks; no one really knows how many of who are out there, they just know there's a lot of them and they're not very nice.

Equatorial regions could go to the reptillian, by and large. Lizardfolk, troglodytes, kobolds, ophidians, yuan-ti, and so on. I like the idea of lost temples buried in the jungle. Its a good spot for dinosaurs too. And tribes of super-intelligent apes and savage Amazons, but that probably goes without saying.

I also like Giants. Fire Giants are CR 15ish, which is knocking on the door of godhood. With numbers like that, you probably only need one. Instead of being a separate race, The Fire Giant could be a regular giant who gets imbued with primal elemental force. That gives you Fire, Earth, Air and Cold, and Storm is easy to make a Water Subtype since they already get water breathing and a swim speed. If you didn't want every god to be a Titan, you could use giants.

Speaking of worshipping elemental forces, Elemental Weirds from the MMII are CR 12ish, cast as 18th level Sorcerers and get a list of at will divinations. You put a Fire Weird in the Temple of Fire, and you got a pretty good goto Elemental God right there. Its big, its mysterious, it knows things, people can petition it for wisdom.

I want to keep up the enthusiasm, but I want to clarify that the E6 setting isn't a "community project" so much as a project that has generated amazing level of interest. This isn't at all about others' ideas - it's just because I've seen too many community campaign projects disintegrate after an initial burst of enthusiasm. I will keep up a core thread of material for this because I'm running games in this E6 setting.

I like to give my players something to work with when they create the party, and this E6 game will be no exception. To keep with the domino theme, I want the players to have a solid connection with a major imminent conflict, but not something that clearly forces them along a particular path.

Here's what I'm doing: The players are all people with some connection to the Aagen noble family, who were lords of a great valley in the kingdom of Miur. The aging, weak king of Miur ceded the Aagen valley to Koaria, Miur's aggressive neighbour, to secure peace. Lord Aagen tried to warn the king that even this action would not stop Koaria's aggressiveness, but was denied even an audience by the king's army of courtiers and bureaucrats.

The Aagen family, under the terms of a treaty that they had no part in, was no longer to rule the valley, and departed the kingdom with a train of loyal retainers. They departed Miur and took what wealth they could carry to the south - their destination: a great trade city of the south, where Lord Aagen hoped his family and those loyal to him might prosper.

(Now I'm on the lookout for an OGC trade city)

Ryan, do you mind if I do some public brainstorming on an E6 setting at a different website?

Here on EN World (in this thread) or somewhere else is all good - I'd love to see the discussion!

I just didn't want people to get the wrong impression about what I was getting into: I'm running an E6 game and a frequent EN Worlder, and I'll be posting about that game. I'm just not going to try to manage, co-ordinate, or act as a filter for a community project.

Also, E6 is 100% OGC, as you can see in the .rtf (which will soon be supplanted by a .pdf). I'd love to see what others do with it. I'd also be delighted to see someone take E6 and run with it in a product, if they so chose.

I'm seriously thinking about using Ptolus as the backbone for the E6 campaign. That makes for a very good destination for the Aagen family, and it would give me more factions and adventures and characters than I could hope to create on my own time.

Hmm.. maybe I should wait a night before posting my thoughts. Ptolus isn't exactly what I'm looking for to show off the best of E6.

I personally think that E6 could be used in any of the published settings. Eberron would be an excellent setting, since it's base assumption is that the PC's should be the heroes, and there aren't many high level villians running around. Plus the highest level characters are supposed to reach in any Eberron adventure I've seen is 10th level. You also have action points as an additional resource for PC's.

Yep. Eberron would work great. Right now I'm sitting down with several different books and considering my options. Homebrewing has the appeal of being a possible OGC resource for E6 DMs....
