An easy apocalypse....

It's big, it's heavy, it's wood...

Over at the wizards.com D&D boards, somebody suggested using a Wish to wish for 15000 tons of wood. If you dropped that on someone, they'd take about

[(15000*2000)/200]d6 = 150000d6

Or 525000 average damage. Ouch.

However, a friend and I decided that it could be done better than that.

If you phrase the Wish so that'd you'd get all that wood in 1 lb. logs, you'd have 30 million logs. If all those logs where lined up 2x2x750000 straight above the target, and put them up high enough that they would all get the full 20d6 from falling damage, you'd do

(20*30000000)d6 or 600000000d6

2100000000 average damage. 2.1 billion.

Don't think they'll hold still to be hit by all that? That's what Hold Person and Hold Monster are for.

If you think that's too much to waste on one target, rephrase the wish so that you have the logs stacked 2x2x2 high above every 5' square you can manage. If my math is correct, that's about 3.36 square miles. Enough to squash the tiny nation of Monaco almost 5 times.

160d6 (average 560 damage) on every 5' square for that far around is pretty impressive. Of course, 2100000000 damage on a single target is nothing to laugh at either.

The only problem (at the moment) is that'd you would have to be very specific on how you phrase your wish. And if you use the Mass Area Killing Log Attack version, you should make sure to get the heck outta there fast.

I thought, why not a) Cast timestop around the victim, and b) wish for 1500 tons of ANTI HYDROGEN, within the area of the timestop, increasing density if nessercary.... The time stop lasts a little while, so teleport without error/gate yourself, and anything you want, to the outer planes- and laugh like a maniac, when as you see thorugh a scrying spell, the timestop expire, as that area gets heated to *Oh, whats the specific heat for nitrogen.....*187200000000000 degrees c..........This would practically creata a proto star where the victims were.....

A version for a CE mage is to cast timestop on the area around himself *remaining active, of course* then wish for a layer of anti-hydrogen around the atmosphere equating to the mass of 1500 tons *the max for wish*, then gate himself to the 100th layer of the abyiss, and collect the *huge* reward from some overlord........

The atmosphere would *ONLY* be heated to: 187200000000000c+whatever it was at the start.

The victim would be hit by "only" a few hundred lugs. The rest would simply add on top of the pile that has formed by then (adding to the weight of the pile, obviously, but not doing the same damage).

Anyone wasting a wish on something like this ought to get a whole frickin' rainforest op top of his head himself, though. ;) :D

Er.......No it wouldnt........At a velocity of >30mph, which would be there, then the logs would whack you on the head, then bounce up about....2m, which would almost certainly be in a different, quasi random direction. The logs COULD NOT stack with that area, apart from wind, the pock marking of the skull would makeing VERY unlikely to stack, have you tried balanceing to spheres on top of each other, without adjustment? Ture spheres? That and the whole HOLD PERSON thingy......

Even if they did just start to pile up, I'd start askin' for Strength checks, and if they fail, the poor sap starts taking crushing damage. :D

Nah, you can create valuable materials for up to 15000 gp in value. I don't know how much antimatter would cost in a fantasy setting, but I'm pretty sure that 15k gp wouldn't give you much.

Besides, 1500 tons is more than enough to destroy several planets, many times over.

Hm. Now, the question becomes, how do you wish for a thing that the character doesn't know exists?

Oh, and about all that wood? You only get that much damage out of a substance if it supports it's own weight. The wood can only transmit as much force as it can withstand - after that, the energy goes into breaking the wood.

This is the concept behind an automobile "crumple zone". Rather than transmit energy into the driver, it goes into crunching up the car.

Um, it dosent need to take its own wait, and i do know physicics. *sp* What happens is, that a 1lb log of wood falls, from 3 miles up, magically guided, onto the victims head. The force of the imact makes the wood bounce off. The next bit hits a few ms/s later, and again bounces off. Repeat.

Oh, and by my calculations, 1500 tons of anti hydrogen is enough to make any planet into a star, and probably strip any nearby planets of their atmosphere *if any* due to beta, alpha, and gamma radiation. Basically, it becomes 187200000000000 degrees c for a couple of................billion *well, 6/7 million* years.

OTOH, how many tons of common hydrogen could you get for 15000 GP? What with it being 95% of the universe, I guess hydrogen can't cost much for a Wish. If you ask for it right now, right here, there could be enough sudden pressure to cause an explosion (setting the hydrogen aflame as well).

Oh, anyway, instead of wood I would use rocks. Cheaper and with less volume.

Fek, instead of wood or rocks I'd use their friends and family members. Perhaps important politicians. Enemies. And fill the rest with elves.

Why bother just killing one person when you can kill one person with a WHOLE LOT of other people?
