D&D 5E ...an invertebrate world?

'Cause we're living in an invertebrate world
And I am an invertebrate girl
You know that we are living in an invertebrate world
And I am an invertebrate girl
Living in an invertebrate world
And I am an invertebrate girl

Apropos of the reptilian thread.....how about an invertebrate world

thri keen - noble warriors
mind flayers - evil geniuses (again)
(my spider folk - cute gnome-like sidekicks...shameless plug here :))

.....aboleth (are these fish or something more invertebratey?)
Just thought about it: the world Splatoon!

Woomy!

I don't think a mind flayer counts as an invertebrate.

There were many types of creatures in Dark Sun associated with the Tohr-kreen Empire (and Spelljammer's Xixchil). Rastipedes, bloodwings, giant snails (their slime can be used to construct buildings), and so forth.

At least according to everything published, mind flayers are vertebrates. Or rather, nothing ever suggests otherwise, and they are literally created from human stock. Nothing in their description says they lose their bones.

It's your world, though, and they can be anything you want.
hadn't made it yet .....just posted the idea after seeing the reptile world thread, but it did get me thinking as I am in the process of planning and arid harsh dark-sun like region of my home campaign so making it more like this is intriguing...

Focusing on invertebrates is a really interesting idea. Have you considered stuff like oozes in addition to the usual arthropods? Veering outside the animal kingdom more generally could also be cool, with creatures of the Plant type maybe.
