An Open Letter to the DnD Miniatures design team

Clothed females, please. The old schtick of chicks in peek-a-boo mail and lots of exposed skin when they're expected to get into a fight and ... you know... like... live has got to go.
Hehe, yeah. Nothing against exposed skin, but female fighter-types should wear armor that actually protects instead of just distract their enemies. ;)

Let's see. . . . What are some interesting weapon set-ups?

Shortspear and shield, all Roman-like.
Whip and rapier
Quarterstaff
Katana
Do we have any mounted knights with lances?
A pair of sickles
A monkey, balancing on its tail, wielding four nunchaku.
How about a wizard, holding a wand and blowing over its tip, like a gunslinger blowing out smoke?

I can't think of any minis that are molded this way.

Harbinger:
Ember is clothed normally
Sword of Heironeous is clad in full plate
Arcane Archer wears full body leather armor
Axe sister, nothing sexy there
Lidda, leather armor
Vadania, leather armor (bare arms)
Wood elf skirmisher wears "summer" clothes :)
Drow cleric of Lloth wears form fitting purple robes

Dragoneye:
Gnome fighter, full plate
Bladesigner (not sure if female or not), fully armored
Drow wizard looks sexy (from the gallery)

Archfiends:
Healer is fully dressed
Mialee also
Champion of Eilistrae is sexy, but its supposed to be that way
Cleric of Kord is dressed, thank god
Evermeet Wizard is fashionable
Ragnara is in armor
Dark moon monk is in a sleeveless top, and we can see her navel! gasp!
Erinyes yummy, as well as it should be
Drow sargeant is in full chainmail
Yuanti pureblood has her legs showing

Not that much skin there.

I'm not sure about the D&D minis line, but I have 2 female gamers in my group, and we were all down at our FLGS looking for minis for the new campaign... and ALL the females were lithe, sexy, and not wearing very much. They're still complaining.

Yeah, that doesn't sound too bad, really. I havn't seen the minis myself, so can't really say (just judged from the comment above), but normally female miniatures show a huge tendency to be overly sexist (so it wasn't too far-stretched to assume). As said, it's ok for some (especially those enchantress, seductress type characters), but surely not for all. The list you presented looks very much ok. :)

And the general picture the WotC D&D products paint of their fantasy women is pretty well done as well IMHO.

The miniature (from Archfiends) that set me off was the Zhent Soldier with the yellow pajamas and the sword/shield combo.

Also, as far as non-bikini clad female minis go, I just realized last week that the mini for the Cleric of Nerull was a girl. I actually picked it to represent my Orc with a sythe when I noticed boobage.

Its an awesome model, though.

I dunno if it would work with D&D minis, as they are smaller, but for mage knight, I would alter/swap weapons around using a razor blade knife and super-glue. Only real tricky part is keeping them together 'til the glue dries, but duck tape can help there.
