An RPG book that you use all of

Crothian

First Post
Are there any RPG books outside the core rules that you use cover to cover?

I'm not sure there is a single one I'd use all of. There always seems to be an idea, creature, or something that I don't take a shineing to and refuse to use.

I don't even use the core books cover-to-cover. There are many spells no one has cast in my games. We don't use the greyhawk gods so that little section of the PHB is useless. I don't use the campaign advice section of the DMG. Like spells, not every monster has appeared in my games. Not even a quarter of the MM has even been perused beyond first looks and deciding if I liked this or that monster.

I don't think any book can satisfy someone from cover-to-cover. There's always going to be something you don't use.

Er, well, I prolly will use every monster in the FF or MM2 at some point, but I haven't yet.

Um... let's see... ah, the PsiHB pretty much gets full use- although I don't like the prcs in it, I will allow them. I imagine many of my problems with them will be resolved when the Expanded PsiHB comes out in a month or two. (And yes, I even use psionic combat.)

Can't think of any others at the moment...

btw, how's life, Crothian? :)

I can't think of any book I use in its entirety, core or no. I don't use magic classes in my d20 modern game (beings that it's a hybrid game and you are better off using D&D magic classes.) I would use most of T20 but wouldn't use all the races nor would I ever design my own computers.

If I could get a Spycraft game going, I would probably use a majority of the rules section there, if not every option (feat, etc.)

But generally, I cherry pick. ;)

Being a player, I normally just use the PHB, but I don't use it in it's entirety. Many of my old groups did not use the rules for encumberance, or encounter distance, etc.

If anyone does find the "quintessential RPG" book, let me know, heh.

That'd have to be a big fat 'no'. As with others above, I don't even use everything in the core books, although I come close (no Greyhawk gods or gnomes from the PHB, several PrCs in the DMG that I wouldn't allow, and a handful of monsters in the MM that I don't like).

As with Psion, Spycraft may come closest, although I'm not currently using it much in general, the only part of the book I probably wouldn't use if running an active campaign is the section on backgrounds, at least not as written.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything in the Star Wars RCR that I wouldn't allow, although I sure hope no one would want to play a Gungan.

Adventures sometimes come pretty close as well. I made very few changes, if any to Sunless Citadel and Of Sound Mind, and probably wouldn't have a whole lot to change in Forge of Fury, should I ever get around to running it.

As for supplements and stuff like that, it's never the whole thing.
