Anagramatical fun (A maniacal fart gun)

Have any of you had anagram-based riddles in your games? Care to share?

I've got one minor riddle of this sort in my game, and though it's not integral to the plot, I'm wondering if the PCs will ever figure it out.

The major villains are a pair of air mage brothers, Longinus and Pilus. Several thousand years ago, the brothers captured the four winds and wrought havoc with storms they created, but they were eventually defeated. Both, however, found ways to cheat death, and now they're slowly regaining their power.

Pilus is very fond of anagrams, and the party managed to find some of his items that he hid in a cache before he was defeated. The cache included a book that lists 40 different locations of powerful air magic, and the entire book is in anagrammatical code. I didn't make them figure this out on their own, but rather have let them slowly make Decipher Script checks to figure out what's listed (to make matters more complicated, only two members of the party even can read the language it's written in, even if they could decipher its code). The book has provided some interesting clues so far that they're planning on looking up on when they get the chance.

Also in the cache were two powerful magic items that they have no clue how to use. One is a scroll, sealed with wax that has the letters "Twinned Whims of Ruin." They cannot remove the wax to open the scroll. The other is a simple white wingfeather from a hawk. When identified, both only indicate that a command word allows their use. So far the group hasn't realized that an anagram unlocks the powers of each item. I'm wondering if anyone here can figure out how to open the scroll.

Actually, I think I messed up my original anagram.

"Anagrammatical fun" (I forgot an extra 'm') doesn't work quite so well when I try to create "Am maniacal fart gun." Hrm. I'm not too happy about that.

DE SMURF THIN WINO WIN
WIN WISH NUDE FROM TIN
WU TINNED MINOR FISH
I WIND FROM SHINE NUT

This doen't make sense at all!!:p

How about "FOUR WINDS WITHIN MEN" as a possible command phrase? Or, the other way around, it would be "MEN WITHIN FOUR WINDS." Either might be appropriate, I guess.

Johnathan

two more that don't make much/any sense...

wish down in fruit men
I unwind, the form wins

if the thing was trapped the second makes some vague sense i guess

IMO, anagrams are a terrible riddle mechanic, because unless they are very short, the possible combinations the players would have to go thru would be too large (unless they use computer assistance).
Is there an online anagram-decipherer?

edit: there's an online generator: http://www.wordsmith.org/anagram/

From thousands of tries, it didn't come close to deciphering the scroll.
If your other one is "white wingfeather", it did find "Fear the wine wight" - pretty strange monster in your campaign. ;)

That is really unfair to the players! :)

Here are 3 anagrams which look intresting:

Men wish "Fir" to unwind
In white wind from sun
White Wind Inn Forums

I know this isn't really helping, but this thread brought back a memory I didn't even know I had.

Some years ago, MTV ran a promo spot with all sorts of anagrams for "music television." The coolest, IMO, "live mice sit on us."
