The New Fantasy Setting
Search Second Round Delayed
Due to Overwhelming Response

Due to the extraordinary response to our search for a new fantasy setting, Wizards of the Coast will push back the date for initiating the second round of proposals. A committee of experts from WotC will read and review all the submissions made and will make its decision by the end of the first week in August. Those whose submissions have been selected for further development into ten-page proposals will be notified by that time.

To date we've received more than 10,000 submissions in our search. This is both overwhelming and amazing. We're tremendously excited by the enthusiasm of those submitting and by the high quality of many of the submissions. It's testimony to the vitality and creativity of the gaming community. Now we want to take the necessary time to make sure we give all proposals the best consideration possible.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Whoa! A delay was just to be expected, but one month?!?

Well, I guess that means they are reading them more carefully than I thought. This sounds like a good thing! :)

What is amusing...

It was going to take them just about a week...heh.

I had a feeling that was a bit optimistic on their part, unless they were going to start semi-arbitrarily round-filing submissions... ("What? Arial? I hate arial! In the trash you go!").

Maybe Hasbro owns significant stock in the various companies that design / develop / host internet message boards and they want another good month of chatter on the subject....

Heh heh heh.

Those poor, poor folks. :D

Anywho, since this is a topic of HUGE interest, I'm gonna sticky it, since folks are gonna want to know.

I wonder if this means that the overall quality of submissions was pretty good too.

That is probably a very good sign, but I hope that 'by the first week of August' means 'before August'.

I'm getting ancy :-)

I think 'first week of August' is intentionally left vague, so if necessary they have until August 9th. Or maybe the 10th!

But perhaps they will end up meaning 'before August', or 'before the first FULL week of August' or 'at the end of the first full week of August'.

It'd be neat if they requested more than 10 10-pagers based on the volume of submissions.

I suppose I'll do my best to forget about it for a month or so.

:-)

A delay was a sure thing. It'll be a long month. Perhaps they'll announce at GenCon...

I've been skimming a lot of threads on different sites and have come up with the following common world themes.

Water worlds with Islands.
Flying cities world
Golden age of magic setting
apocalyptic world setting
dragon setting
demonic setting
evil has taken over the whole world setting

Anyone do any of these?

Anyone do any of these?

Hehehe... Fortunately, nope... Hopefully it's original enough to catch their eye but yet remains highly marketable to meet their needs. Crossing my fingers but not holding my breath...:)
