And the mystery race is...hated

Because it's an isolated community of humans, elves, halflings, tieflings and dragonborn.

Yes, everyone knows that isolated communities are all about multicultralism and diversity.

And, if you are adapting (say) an ongoing Greyhawk campaign into 4e, how can you argue that dragonborn have been known for hundreds or thousands of years? Colour me skeptical.

Give your PC low Int and high Str and you have your "Hulk smash!" race. But no race should be this limited in the roles they can play.

Not really, an elf or halfing or what have you is still not a "Hulk smash!" race to me, no matter how high their Str is and how low their Int is.

And obviously a race should not be limited in the role they play, what I'm talking abut is intrinsic "Hulk smash!" races, such as Half-ogre, Goliath, Minotaur etc.

You could still play a sophisticated and cultured Half-Ogre wizard etc, but they often have a rep for…

Dragonborn, Drow, Tieflings, Oh My!

Munchkinism personified. The old races are too boring for the younger crowd it would seem. Now we get to look like Dragons or cool looking Demons or maybe we can be Drizzt someday!

Why look like a gnome when we can have cool looking fangs, horns and maybe breath fire from time to time.

And some still insist that this is still D&D. lol.

Its only munchkinism if those races are stronger than the others and considering that WotC wants to make then PHB races they probably wont be that.

Also why does every PHB race have to look like a human with small variations? Previously all non human PHB races were just humans with a combination of being much smaller, having pointy ears, have hairy feet, have big noses and have big beards. Why can't there be a PHB race which does not look like a human?

There can be and there is. Check any MM, you can use just about anything there. They arent "Core" but you can use it. Making them more "Core" and commonplace is munchkin farming your target audience.
