And the Uppity Shoeshine... (DM:twilsemail; Judge: renau1g)

Though it did seem a bit dishonorable to him, Kaz nevertheless waited for both Reeve and his employer to finish talking to the party. He then hid in the shadows in the mansion, sneaking around and trying to overhear any conversation made by either of them; in case they know more than was being told.

"The neighbor said he saw Mikhail and Shod coming back from the docks," says Scarmiglione to everyone, except for Kaz, who seems to have vanished into thin air. "But there are a lot of places near the docks he might have visited.... Did anyone find anything more concrete than that?"

[sblock=ooc]Maybe you could have Carmen Sandiego-style clues. "I saw him coming back from the docks! He said he was really dying to eat a baguette!"[/sblock]

"Well, if we were adventurers, where in the docks would we go to look for trouble?"

OOC: Fredrock can be more specific, but I don't think Toeto heard about Castor's place yet.

Reeve has heard rumors that it was easy for the inexperienced to find work at a place in the docks owned by one Castor. At least it's a lead on where to start at the docks
OOC: at A-Kon in Dallas this weekend, so I may not respond quickly..

Scarmiglione decides to dress down for his trip to the docks and dons an old cloak that covers up the unusual golden feathers on his neck. Posing as a wannabe adventurer himself, he makes his way to the docks and inquires after Castor.

Toeto follows Scarm and the others to the docks, but she stops short of entering any establishment (be it a tavern, warehouse, or whatever). She can't imagine what she would even say to the locals. Leave that kind of thing to the actor-bird!
On the other hand, maybe a different kind of witness could provide her with the boy's whereabouts?

[sblock=ritual]Would it be possible to use a Speak with Nature ritual to augment or replace a skill check here? I figure that Toeto sucks at gathering information from people, but she might be able to speak with the birds and beasts.
[sblock=Speak with Nature info]For the ritual's duration (10 min), you can communicate with natural beasts and mundane plants (but not plant creatures).
The ritual does not make animals friendly, and the animals are limited in their knowledge by their experiences and mobility. For example, a plant knows only about its immediate surroundings, and a fish can describe only what it has seen or experienced underwater.
Your Nature check result determines the number of questions you can ask (0 to 3).[/sblock]Toeto would probably get Yishim to display the illusion and she'd ask something like "Where did this man say he was going?"[/sblock]

Yishim listens to Toeto's idea and nods agreement. As with any harbor, I think the rats and fleas know more than any of the drunkards and thieves.

They walk into a quiet alley, and Yishim conjures a vision of Mikhael. He struggles with some of the features, but hopefully it's enough to help the rats.
[sblock=Arcana 17]
Arcana = 17 (inc. +1 individual and -1 cumulative)[/sblock]

"Ooooh. Ah theyink thayat's a wundahful ahdea!" Eithal makes quite a sight of herself, searching in vain through rubbish boxes and under wharf planks along the docks, "Heyah rattie! Whayah ah yew!?" she calls into a barrel as she lifts the lid overhead outside an eating establishment, drawing a disapproving eye from the proprietor. [sblock=Nature]1d20+10-1=15 0 Points! Well, if you can't get Invisible Castle to cooperate, you might as well have fun with it. ;)[/sblock]

GM: I'll allow the ritual. I think it fits well with what's going on.

[sblock=progress]
Kaz: 2 Points; +1 on next round's roll
Scarm: 2 points; +1 on next round's roll
Yishim: 1 point; -1 on next round's roll
Eithal: 0 points; -2 on next round's roll

I'll post responses when I've got Fred and Toeto's rolls. I'm still sorting out what Kaz might have found at the house.[/sblock]

[sblock=Nature 17]Forgot to add the +2 and -1 from last round. Anyway, that's enough for one question for the ritural.[/sblock]
