After thinking about it for a while, and I am sorry that I didn´t voice my concerns during the playtest, I believe arcane recovery is problematic:

While all other abilities only refer to short or long rest, the arcane recovery ability specifies an actual time frame.
This is problematic, because if you change the duration of short and long rests, you change the interval in that the wizard can recover their spells.
Why not make it a real short rest ability, maybe with a little less power?

Hmm. It took me a second to realize what you're saying.

Once per day during a short rest

You're saying that the "once per day" part is a problem. I think. Maybe, if one wants to emulate a more 4e style. But a DM can pretty easily make that 3 short rests a day. I would hesitate to make it every short rest, because that's making one daily an encounter power each time. But that might ok at your table.

That would be interesting - something like you can recover a few spells slots on a Short Rest (maybe 1/4 of your slots starting with the lowest spell level). Interesting idea.

You can only use each of your hit dice once per day as well. If anything, allow Arcane Recovery per short rest, but between long rests can only recover spells slots with a combined level equal to or less than half your wizard level (rounded up). So no more slots can be recovered, but you can spread them out a bit.

Or a DM could redefine "day". Making the game term "day" = 12 hours allows for multiple uses of hit dice and arcane recovery per 24 hour period. Make short rests = 5 minutes and long rests = 1 hour.

The Ref doesn't need to redefine day, does he? The rules (play test) essentially say day = "period between two long rests". That feels perfectly consistent for me -- recovery requires a short rest, but it needs a long rest before it will re-activate.
