Angel 10/15/03 (possible spoliers)

You guys realize, don't you, that Joss is pandering shamelessly to the huge and rabid Spike-fan community out there?

Yeah, and I'm not terribly pleased about it. That character was overplayed on Buffy for several seasons, and now they're doing the same damn thing on Angel. Spike was funny in Buffy season four. Going downhill in five, hella annoying in six, though a bit better in seven. But woo, fricking hoo, he's angsty and has an accent and the girls and fanboys swoon, so they toss him on the other show. Why couldn't he go down with his own ship? Angel already has a crapload of cast, and they're getting shortchanged to force in the new guy. Bah.

Though I have to admit, it was funny when he was pulling one over on gullible Fred.

And Frankenstein. Heh.

Why all the Spike hating? I think he is a cool character and brings alot to the show. His storyline is one of the most interesting things about this season so far. Ties in great with the W&H takeover.

I loved the episode, for a lot of the reasons others found it boring.

The main goal here is a reminder to Angel: "Don't let the monster win." Hence the socializing at the end of the episode.

He's not that far off from being Angelus just a few months ago, much less whatever the heck he was back in the second season. It was kinda neat seeing them in a friendlier atmosphere, even if for one episode.

Angel season 4 went dark like Buffy Season 6 went dark. They really needed some light on this show, because they're about to get a whole lot darker, if the first episode is any indication.

The fact that Angel still does BS like
Killing a werewolf with a silver ink pen
always cracks me up - punctuated by
Spike making such a big deal about it later - and Fred popping his ego like a balloon.
Personally I think that's why he
pulled his vanishing routine - not because he was genuinely alomst gone for good, but because he wanted to guilt her out for that earlier offense.

Personally, I think it would be fun to see Gwen "lightning girl" show up for one episode in the future. She's the type who would need some high-priced lawyers for a particularly hairy problem, and seeing her reaction to Gunn would be worth it.

I'm really wanting to like Spike again. Marsters is a great actor, and when Spike's on, he's fantastically funny and cool. But he's annoyed the bejeezus out of me these past two episodes. Other than him, I really liked this episode.

Yeah, he's on the show purely to draw in fans. I know my wife and I would be far happier, however, if they'd made a deal to bring Willow over; a more yummy actress I can't imagine.

There was a story over on the Cinescape website the other day that Alyson Hannigan has signed to star in an as yet undeveloped sitcom for NBC next season. Networks execs are even calling the show a "high priority". Hopefully it won't suck as much as most sit-coms...

I was really apprehensive about Spike being on Angel. I've never really liked him on Buffy (though I've only watched seasons 1-4 in full). So far, he hasn't been as bad as I thought he would be... we'll see how it develops.

Watch buffy 5-7. Then you'll probably appreciate our Spike fatigue. :)

Nooooo, not a frickin' sit-com. I haven't seen a sit-com I liked aside from Simpsons since Seinfeld left us. Don't tell me, she's either got a bunch of firends or co-workers that do nothing but sit around and talk sarcastically or she's part of a dysfuntional family.

Actually, the few episodes of those seasons I've seen have convinced me not to buy them on DVD (I've only watched the other seasons because I bought the DVDs).
