Angels and Demons oh my!

A small note on Engel....

It is set on Earth, but in a future post-apocalyptic "medieval" setting.

Furthermore while Engel revolves around playing as angels...
the angels aren't really Angels. They are genetically engineered humans.

Oops! I'd only flipped through it at the store, didn't read too much on the world-setting (I tend to use homebrew, so I look at things for how they will fit into the world I have rather then the one that the publisher created).

No need to apologize, at first glance Engel is exactly as you described. The "spoiler" I mentioned is actually supposed to be kept secret from the players as well.

FWIW Engel does have some mechanical issues as well...

I would like to humbly suggest the new edition I am putting out this month.

I will be releasing Celestius Ex second edition rpg and it will use the OGL system. It is mostly based on the modern and anime srd. It is a setting in the modern world and you can play 4 types of angels, 4 types of special humans and 4 types of half-demons.

I will be announcing it on these boards when I release it, and it will be released on rpgnow.com and paper street games (www.paperstreetgames.com).

I hope this interests you.

I echo the call for Anger of Angels if you want a truly celestial campaign. However if you have d20 Modern and Urban Arcana (Menace Manual would help too) a little effort will get you the game you want without having to spend any money. Urban Arcana has Aasimar and Tieflings. If you don't really consider them powerful enough for Angels and Demons grant them some spell like abilities and extra feats at character creation, perhaps a Smite ability or supernatural senses. That and lots of flavor text will go along way.

I realize its not exactly what you asked for, but if you have any of the books you mentioned in your first post, the ones you weren't sure about mechanically, you can borrow the setting, world, and plot from them and import d20 Modern creatures and rules. Altering them cosmetically if need be. From what I have read of both Fallen and In Nomine these kinds of mechanics would cover at least some of the campaign styles available in those worlds.

I have been tossing the idea around of a d20 Modern based expansion for the ongoing war between heaven and hell, and I might be willing to give you some help if you wind up going the way of the homebrew.

The hard thing is that all the games listed are mainly based by jeudo-christian myth, which I know I kinda asked for. But I like to try and find a gamee that has other culutral myths as well like the asian demons and angels( which I know there are some)

Anger of Angels

I liked the new domains, feats, and spells in the book, but not Sean Reynolds' treatment of angels in general or of specific angels (I was especially put off by his portrayal of Raphael as a female).

Anger of Angels, Book of Vile Darkness, Book of Exalted Deeds, Book of the Righteous, Manual of the Planes, Edge of Infinity! :)

In that case you might want to look into GURPS material related to the Orient and the Supernatural, but you will have to build the world yourself. Feng Shui by Robin D. Laws is based on the Shadowfist cardgame and has a heavy oriental influence. Some of its source books might help you. I didn't care for the mechanics of the system, but flavor wise it might be what you are looking for. I believe it is now published by a division of Atlas Games.
