Angels and Demons oh my!

...I dont suppose you still have them somewhere? Heh. :)

Unfortunately, no, just some very brief stuff. Apparently I worked out a lot of it on paper at the last minute and didn't type it in for my records. :(

Ohh WOW, I did not expect to have you , Mr. Reynolds, on the threads and on this particular one. My question for AOA is will you have any web updates for other culture celstials or is that in the book already?

Well, there is a small section about using the book's materials in Egyptian, Norse, or other settings, and IIRC it also talks about how in some cultures angels are replaced by genies, but the book's main focus are Judeo-Christian angels, (as starting to add large amounts of info on other cultures would have ended up in a very scattered, vague book).

the one stumbling block i was having thinking about the conversion was what to do with Forces. Forces aren't just a mechanical thing -- celestials in the game know about Forces, know how many (and what type) they have, and some can even sense Forces in other people. there'd have to be some way of converting that over to d20. the crudest way i could figure would be to vaguely link it to level, but that seems kinda weird, since in IN Forces represent your ability scores.

Well, in a roundabout way in d20 your forces represent your ability scores, too (as the more HD/levels you get, the more you can increase your ability scores, and bigger-HD creatures tend to start with more), it's just less of a direct relationship than in IN where your force allocations directly equate to how many ability points you can have at each time. I remember thinking on this topic as well. :)

That's sort of what I was thinking. The original game had 6 abilities. DND has 6 abilities. You'd likely have to adjust what is Ethereal, Corporeal, and Celestial, but it can be done. IMO, I'd use something like...

Strength-Dexterity=Corporeal
Intelligence-Constitution=Ethereal
Wisdom-Charisma=Celestial

...And use those mods as the basis for songs or other 'forces' based abil.

For Essence use, there are several versions of the 'action point' mechanic going around. The one that I'm wondering about is if we can keep some part of the divine intervention factor with the original D666 method. :) Maybe something ala Spycraft? Natural 20 and then the use of a large amount of essence for a divine intervention event?

that's interesting, but i'd be more inclined to make Dexterity Ethereal and Constitution Corporeal. Constitution mostly represents how "tough" your physical body is, and you could say Dexterity is the level of fine motor control you have (approximating somewhat IN's Precision stat). i think Fortitude should be based off of a Corporeal stat, and Reflex kinda fits better for Ethereal. Will for Celestial is obvious.

that one is a bit harder. it's possible to simulate the relative chances of getting a divine or infernal intervention... on a nat 20, roll again. on a 19-20, divine intervention. on a nat 1, roll again, on a 1-2, infernal intervention. that gives a 1/200 chance of either kind. in d666, there's a 1/216 chance, so it's fairly close.

however, that totally loses the flavor of rolling 6-6-6 (the Number of the Beast) or 1-1-1 (the Holy Trinity). i can't think of a way to replicate that with a d20.
