For an evil cult, the spider is king, followed closely by the snake in second place. Lolth and Yuan-ti. Frogs have been a bit more popular than they should be - Temple of the Frog, Wastri the Hopping Prophet.

Good choices - wolf, bear, cat, ape, bat, any raptor, crocodile, worm, termite, dragonfly, praying mantis, flies, beetles, moth, centipede, crab.

Or how about extinct animals such as the sabretooth tiger, mammoth, dinosaurs and flying reptiles?
