Animal Races in DnD

As was mentioned earlier, Mystara/The Known World has had cat-people and dog-people since the beginning. If you look at the Red Steel/Savage Coast expansion for Mystara, you also get turtle-people, raccoon people and scorpion-people.

True, but the word furries tends to bring negative connotations. Reminding people that animal-based races have been slinking around in the background of DnD for a while is still pretty relevant to the question.

And Kesh - you left out gator-people.

Sigh. Isn't it amazing how a very small but very vocal minority can taint the view of an entire hobby or branch of fandom. Oh, wait, we've all been through that. As a place to find some great furry art, go to www.yerf.com (Formerly known as the Squeaky-Clean Furry Archive). Even some D&D-themed peices in there done for the wonderful Ironclaw RPG. I'm also reminded of the 'kobold' GenGen from Suikoden II. I'm so tempted to put in halfling-sized dog people just because of him.

Furry races don't bother me at all. But then I also used to play TMNT.

They have been in several supplements as stated above, but to add to the list, Mythic Races has several different cat men races, some lizardmen races and insect men races, Everquest RPG has both cat men and lizard men, and MEG has a wolf man race in their hunt rise of evil setting.

Perhaps I was being too subtle. The point was, it's been done before. People obviously do like it, since that setting did rather well (before it got axed).

And yes, I consider myself a furry, or at least a fur-fan. So I like the idea.

What, you couldn't tell by all my posts about gnolls? :D

I like the idea of animal people.
I also have to agree w. j.g. browning; IMO they should replace the existing demihumans and humanoids, not just add on top of them. Have gods make humans from apes, lupins from wolves, rakasta from cats, and whatnot.
