D&D 5E (2014) Announcement coming February 6th

Well, at three books a year that isn't a big dip into my budget: certainly their old strategy prevented me from buying, due to analysis paralysis.

I can understand that, I was lucky enough to have decent disposable income at the time and typically bought 1-2 books every month....especially working at a hobby store. There was enough being released that I could just pick and choose what I wanted and just flip through all of the other stuff!

My problem wasn't funds, it was just they released stuff I was interested in so fast that I couldn't choose before they released six more things and rebooted the process so I got nothing. Now I spend months anticipating product announcements. Think they might be on to something.

We all would I am sure! Whatever the case, I cannot wait to see more.

One last thing about Marathon being a Planar supplement: Chris Perkins said the next book (Marathon) will be teased in Dice Camera Action this season. So far they have had two sessions where players went to Sigil and a few more where they talked with various Sigil related NPCs (Shemeshka, Many as One, etc.) At this point if Marathon is not some kind of planar book I'll eat my hat!
I am fairly certain that Marathon will be Planar, and I think monster manual adjacent: but I'm not sure yet. However, I think that means Broadway will be Planar, to capitalize on the first book (but in a "you need both books" sort of way).

I'm wondering if 2018 may be their "Year of the Planes", with a planar guidebook/bestiary coming up in May, a big planar adventure (like the Great Modron March) in September, then a planar TFtYP (a new "Tales from the Infinite Staircase", featuring interesting planar locations not visited in the other books?) or another guidebook that doesn't cover the May book in November...

That's my suspicion, based on the waffling answer to the Tyranny of Dragons question posted earlier: themed and reinforcing, but not necessary to use it all.

While people are speculating on Undermountain as a possibility, remember that back last year, or was it already back in 2016, at a major convention, they had that big group of attendees design a mega-dungeon together. Mearls or Crawford said that what was created that day would eventually see print. That could easily be an "adventure supplement" without being an actual adventure.

This is also a possibility, I had forgotten about that one!

Well, while they did say that when asked, I thought that was more of an AL thing, like with other Epics (something they have been working on). I think Undermountain will get it's day in AP form, but I don't think that Epic was a preview, strictly speaking.

To add to this, remember the D&D Open they did a year or 2 back was in Undermountain, and Halaster Blackcloak came back to life during it! In case we needed any more reason to think Undermountain would be coming back soon.

No, it was not something for AL. It was a design workshop that the attendees had to sign up for. You may be remembering the Open that Garrett mentioned.
