D&D 5E (2014) Announcement coming February 6th

No, it was not something for AL. It was a design workshop that the attendees had to sign up for. You may be remembering the Open that Garrett mentioned.
Ah, yes, that is what I thought was meant by your post.

Still don't think Undermountain is in the current offering, since they have emphasized Planar things so much and haven't said boo recently about Undermountain or Waterdeep (Mearls just recently directed somebody to the DMs Guild for old Undermountain stuff if they wanted to explore under the Yawning Portal). I am also fairly certain we will only see one AP book, which will likely be set in Lantan, before going cosmic. They have given every indication of working on only one book of adventure material moving forward.

You don't think "Xanathars", "Tales...", "Undermountain Speculation", and the reported movie location are enough leads?

I'll bet you a browser cookie one of them is UM (personally I think two are).

So maybe one Player/DM supplement, one Adventure, and one Setting Book?
Something along those lines: I'm thinking we will get a May supplement with Planar themes, a Planar Adventure, and a Manual of the Planes in November. Maybe other "genre" themes in future years, to go with a new approach to settings

The movie speculation involving undermountain is out of date, we more recent Intel suggests it will be in Kynn, the world of Dragonlance.

Should one of the releases be the planar version of a Volo's Guide, I'm wondering if fictional author might be Iggwilv. She would make for an interesting viewpoint, being from Oerth and chaotic evil, as well as already established in lore as an author on such matters...

Yes, but at the time the products were decided upon, and even through the time they were written it was still UM. It wasn't until the new movie deal was announced, which was about the same time that the Sept and November products (Marathon and Catacomb? I keep getting the names mixed up) were already in external play test.

There are more reason for me to think UM is coming, but no proof. That's why I'm willing to bet cookies to anyone who wants!

I really think that Takes from the Yawning Portal was intended to be the film-related Undermountain AP, and tie into Xanathar's Guide. The Warner Bros. movie, for whatever reason, fell through, and WotC decided to switch to one AP a year. So my read, which I am also willing to bet no more than cookies on, is that Undermountain lost it's place in the rotation for the time being, particularly with ToA filling the Megadungeon niche to some extent. I think we'll see it in 5E by 2024, but I don't think 2018 is that time.

Major NPC's that have been in Lore You Should Know, the Waffle Crew or in previous APs (or all of the above) would include Shemeshka or Mordenkainen, both of whom seem likely candidates: Mordenkainen's Guide to Cosmic Critters, Shemeshka's Manual of the Planes...?

"The Great Modron March's Seemingly Chaotic Yet Very Direct, Orderly, and Planned Guide to the Outer Planes and Other Planes of Zero Consequence."

I have to catch my breath just typing that!
