Another alternate armour Idea.

Oh, they added a combat option that functions similarly to Power Attack. If you take a hit on your to hit by a certain value, 4 for light armors, 6 for medium and 8 for heavy, you get half of that against the armor value. So if you take a -8 to hit against someone in full plate, then you ignore 4 points, or half of his armor's DR rating.

Grim and Gritty System 3.3

The Grim and Gritty rules presented in Camarath's link, at Kenneth S. Hood's webpage, are not the latest version of the rules. I have a copy of version 3.3 on my desktop, and its much more streamlined and easier to understand. Its a dangerous assumption to make that since they can be found online, the rules are up for grabs, but I've tried to contact Mr. Hood, repeatedly, and met with no success. Until I'm told not to, I'd like to make my copy available to the forum. I'm more than willing to send the rules to people, and would stop immediately if asked. You can still find the rules online, but they're tucked away somewhere, and even if I had to find them again I doubt I could.

That said, if you'd like an updated version of the Grim and Gritty rules, by the masterful Kenneth S. Hood, let me know, and I'll find a way to send them your way. I honestly would love to see more people made aware of this system, as it's given me two great games so far. It's not for everyone, or every game, but where it works, it works amazingly well. Five stars, two thumbs up, and a big "Please don't yell at me," to Mr. Hood.

I hope I'm not breaking any rules or laws I should be but aren't aware of...

I'm just trying to be cautious. I've been yelled at before, and it relieves me to see someone else willing to give things like this out. Thing is, Ken took the 3.3 rules down from his webaite, and put the 2.1 rules up in their place, leading me to believe that he either didn't want the new ones up, or was asked by WotC or something to take them down. I didn't want to get him in trouble by distributing something he was forbidden to distribute himself, or piss him off by handing out his secret treasures...

Oh well. 3.4? <Downloads> Well, I feel behind the times. And here I thought I'd be famous for reviving the newest incarnation. Poop. Oh well...

On an up note for me... 100th post! Whoo!

- Kemrain the Easily Distra... Whoo! 100! w00t!

Edit: I just noticed that the 3.4 rules weren't edited by Ken S. Hood, the origional author.
3.4- Fixed an Error in the "normal Healing" section. Added section separator lines (07-08-2002)
That doesn't look like too big of a change, though. I'll read it through and compare.

I believe that this line from the Legal and Disclaimer section means that you are ok.

Woo hoo! Go legal me.

Heh.

Anyway, I looked the 3.4 version over, and it corrected a multiplication error, and added lines to seperate sections. Hardly the changes I was dreading. 3.3 and 3.4 are so the-same that you'd have to be as anal retentive as I am to find the differences without first looking at the versions section in the back of the 'book.' D'oh... Oh well.

Anyone who's interested in a different way to do armor, let alone the HP rules, could benefit from looking this over. It has lots of great ideas, even if you don't use the main ones. (Wound Trauma, Alternate Bleeding, Armor as DR, HP, Class Defense Bonuses, How to do MAgic in a Low Magic/HP Game...)

Also, a while back, Seasong made a PDF from a thread (i think) he started, in which he gave some alternate Armor = Defense + DR rules. I was mentioned in the credits (yay) and he gave it out to EN World. I have a copy of this on my desktop, too, and if anyone is interested in aquiring a copy, I'd be pleased to share.
