Another Creature Catalog query for Dragon? (Pt 2)

another question: are you excluding the "Uniques?"

i know the Cat Lord got sort of an update in Masters of the Wild... and expanded to include Monkey Lord, Snake Lord, Ape Lord, etc...

but what about other uniques?

Nightfall, you wanna give us your version of Orcus? :p

but seriously... not necessarily Orcus as i know he has been updated. but surely the latest Book of Fiends missed some. or even heroes of Legend. like King Arthur or Hiawatha or Gilgamesh... yeah... i've been looking at the wrong books.. i know. :o

i'm not excluding uniques/legendary figures, but i think it's best to avoid them. those sort of personages belong in a different sort of article, i think, than in a random assortment of monsters. :) for example, demon lords like you say, would be better suited in a Demonomicon article where they can get more proper coverage.

I honestly don't have any suggestions. Demon Princes and the like should get their own Demonomicon article. Same with famous personages.

One hit wonders....nothing stands out to me unless someone wants to add further arcane dragons perhaps. That or maybe some fey. I have no real suggestions at this point.

Here are my five. Hopefully they didn't appear elsewhere:

Dragon 47, p. 16
* Mapmaker - odd humanoids from Pandemonium who love maps

Dragon 51, pp. 68-69
* Dark Dwellers - troll-like humanoids who are intelligent and regimented, and live beneath the earth
* Piranha Bats - kinda self-explanatory

Dragon 54, p. 30
* Jabberwock (I know this showed up in a MC at some point, but I don't think it appeared anywhere besides Dragon and that MC). EDIT: Yeah, I know it comes from Lewis Carroll.

Dragon 58, p. 10
* Magenta's Cat - psionic cats

Somebody mentioned the Elder Wyrm above, or I'd have listed it as one of my picks.

i think there've been at least 3 different versions of the jabberwock in D&D at some point (including EX2 Land Beyond the Magic Mirror) so i'm skipping that one. ;)

Magenta's cat *might* have been in the recent Dragon Compendium v1 - could someone check? am i just confusing them for the tibbit? :)

Well, BOZ invited me twice to participate, so I guess I have to post.

Err, but the only contribution that I can make at the time is that I had included the sapromnemes in one of the queries to Dragon Mag that were rejected.

Tirapheg?

Here are some more creatures:

Quatsch (Dragon #42): Skull-faced monkey that causes confusion

Wraithworm (Planescape Monstrous Compendium): Giant snake that can become incorporeal and drain levels

Rummele (Dragon #94): Extraplanar dog with magical powers (including the ability to take human form --- which would make it the good counterpart to the canomorphs)

Greelox (1994 Monstrous Compendium Annual although I think they appeared in Dungeon): Spiderlike outsiders from the Plane of Shadow

Poltergeist (Dragon #55): Not the same as the poltergeist from the 1e Fiend Folio, but the spirits of chaotic gnomes from Limbo and Gladsheim (Ysgard), I guess they would be greater poltergeists

I second the hai ryo, dark dweller, and murdakus.

tirapheg - like the stwinger, i might just include it on the poll for shits 'n giggles. ;)

otherwise, i'll take the first three you mentioned (unless the wraithworm was in the new Draconomicon or something). that wacky poltergiest... maybe, with a name change. :) as for the greelox, well... just about anything from the Monstrous Manual or the followup Monstrous Compendium Annuals is out by the virtue that 98% of that material was a reprint/re-presentation. :)

we'll give 'em another try, then. :) if you can think of any others later, be my guest... i have made my selections and will include a list of alternates i was considering, but i am about to go on a roadtrip and don't have time to post them right now.
