Another DragonCon Come and Gone

Felon

First Post
Well, I'm home after another 4-day long DragonCon. The main highlight for me and a few thousand other Con-goers was the Firefly cast panel and film preview. The joint was packed both Friday and Saturday.

The biggest disappointment was that I missed Marv Wolfman. As far as I could tell from the program schedule, he was only available for a Saturday 10:00 am panel, and even being in my mid-thirties, I have to say that's just way too early to be getting up at DragonCon.

I picked up a couple of board games: Iron Dragon and Return of the Heroes. Iron Dragon was OK, if not my cup of tea. Return of the Heroes was so much fun that I went and picked up the expansion the next day. Also got to play Louis XIV, which was cool though I didn't grasp a lot that was going on.

Who else cares to post their DCon experiences?

Excuse the n00bish question, but I have never attended a con. Many people have stated the mega-con, Gen Con, is not really "role-playing friendly", meaning most attendees play only one or two games the entire 4 days. Is Dragon*Con or Origins more "role-playing friendly", or are most cons designed to meet people and sell games?

There's a lot of gaming at DCon. However, for all its enormity, it is surprisingly hard to meet anyone. Most gamers and play with their little exclusive circle of friends, avoiding eye-contact with strangers approaching their table. I even found myself doing it once or twice.
