Oh, I see what you mean about 5E then. Most of the school traditions really aren't that great IMO so I wasn't even thinking of them... IMO really only Divination and Transmutation has much to offer.

Personally, I would love a "generalist" subclass for Wizard myself. The only wizard (multiclassed) I played in 5E so far was War Magic, and even that I wasn't thrilled with. Other players in my games have been Divination and Abjuration only I think...

I agree there should be a generalist. There's war and scribes currently - and I think scribes is only a slightly gonzo take on the generalist.

Just to level 6 for the stone. After that it is pretty meh.

But that is the issue with most of the wizard subclasses. IMO only abjuration and divination are really good at all, just because of spell resistance and greater portent.

I haven't looked into scribes (in Tasha's?), but I am not surprised if it is OP at all, much new material is IMO.

War is also decent to start, but like the others is underwhelming. Of course, given how powerful wizards are in general, their subclasses really don't need to be very strong.
