Wandering. Not lost. (He/they)
I've been playing RPGA stuff lately, and I've been really wanting to try a cleric. The problem is I just don't know which way to go with him. Right now I'm looking at a cleric of St. Cuthbert with destruction and strength with these stats (28 pt-buy):

str 14
dex 10
con 14
int 10
wis 15
chr 12

his first level feats are currently combat casting and power attack. But I just don't know If he'll cut it. For prestige class options I have the DMG and most of DotF available. For feats beyond 1st level DotF should be available as well.

suggestions? comments? flame strikes?

He looks fine to me.

I assume your leaning toward a combat minded cleric. If so, what about dropping the CC and taking improved initiative instead? The only reason I suggest that is because I'm currently running a 2nd level gray orc cleric with a 10 dex, and he always goes last. That's ok for him though, as he's a healer and not a front line fighter.

Other than that, not much I can say. Have fun with him! ( i sure am with mine)

:)

Improved inti? interesting, I hadnt thought about that. I might instead of power attack.. Cool

Anyone else?

Clerics are very nice with Tower Shields. Can cut down on the amount of concentration checking you're forced to do.

Won't work too well if the rest of your party is hyper mobile, however.

I'm not totally familiar with item creation rules for RPGA, but everyone benefits a lot from low level clerics with scroll or potion making abilities. Just transmute all your left over spells at the end of the day into cures and fill up the parchment.

the problem with two weapon fighting is his dex is 10. I spent my stat points elsewhere.

I hadn't thought of a tower shield either. Some people may be hyper mobile, some may not. But if they want my healing they wont leave me in the dust. :)

The problem with item creation is it burns TUs (time units) and characters have a limited pool each year. Usually people buy scrolls in case they have a cleric around when they need it.

My 6th lvl feat I'm thinking extra smite, but I don't know where to go with my 3rd lvl feat.

Thank you all so far.

Don't take Combat Casting. The +4 to concentration checks casting defensively isn't worth it, it don't help when you get hit by readied actions. Spell Focus Concentration might be more worth it.

I'd rather go with Power Attack and Cleave if you do the melee cleric thing. Divine Might rocks but not with your Charisma...

I'd second that. Combat Casting rarely is worth the opportunity cost, unless you have a cruddy CON. Skill Focus: Concentration is superior if you must take something of that nature.

TWF works out fine regardless of the wielder's DEX, unlike earlier versions of the rules. In 1e, for example, the penalty for TWF was reduced by one's DEX bonus to AC. It isn't like that anymore. Since the mace is the weapon of choice of St Cuthbert, you could duel-wield two light maces easily with Ambi/TWF.

I double checked just to make sure, but ambidexterity has a prereq of Dex 15+, making it out of reach for my character.

I like Divine Might as well, but at most Im willing to make my chr a 14 (and make my con 12). I don't know if that would be worth it.

I've thought this about combat casting before, but it is just so scary to only have a +6. A +10 is so comforting. :)

What about PrCs, any ideas?
