These are some great suggestions for formal names of brigades of constructs. I'm looking for something more "slangish" though -- what to the Joe Blow's call the things?

I'm thinking of taking a page from George Lucas -- turning androids to droids was a great idea. I could turn constructs to 'structs pretty easily.

Do a search for "Cockney rhyming slang" if you want strange and colorful... It might have the right feel for a Steampunk game.

ejja_1's suggestion of "Clanks" seems to fit this bill perfectly, in addition to being a darned cool name -- short, sweet and "generic," but still steampunky.

Edit: tired, sloppy typing.

I'm sure there's a name for this kind of slang:

Dockwork Clummies (dock worker)

Meel Storons (warehouse worker)

Fetal Muckers (general grungy worker)

-- Nifft
That's called a spoonerism, Nifft. Thusly named after a college professor who supposedly scrambled his consonants while speaking on a regular basis.

I thought Mr. Spooner was a radio personality famous for calling the President Hubert Heever. At least that's how I heard the story...

And clanks is a darn good one for what I want --short, sweet, and believable as a common man slang for steamjack-like constructs. I'm possibly going to change it, although the story as written (so far) does use the term 'structs right now.

In my planescapesque game, they were called "ticktockmen" or "tocks" -- but they were clockwork. The name works fairly well for a wider array of clades, however.

I like this one. Cool.
