Another name for the Warlord: Ayran

You know what? I prefer:

Priest instead of Cleric
Warrior instead of Fighter
Berserker instead of Barbarian
Mage instead of Wizard

But I haven't started threads about all of these. Why? Because no one cares, and it isn't going to change a damn thing. Here's what you do: When 4e comes out, tell your friends that when you say "Ayran", you are actually referring to the warlord class and not yogurt dip.

Completely, completely agree.

Do not use Ayran or any variation of Aryan.

Go phonetic. Stick with your I-ran example. I-ran shouldn't bother anyone. ;)

Nah, you'd tire to quickly if you played that class. Better to call it the U-ran. Nevermind that that's much more fitting for the class concept, which involves others doing the heavy lifting. :D

People have been using the term portmanteau wrong a lot recently.

Remember, if you can see two whole words (i.e. warmage), it isn't a portmanteau.

Because class names that don't clearly suggest what the class does are confusing to new players. Nobody, new or old to gaming, can confuse what a "fighter" does. But if I said a party contained a "gobflobble", a "wronkitator" and a "miranginist", you'd have no clue what that meant until you'd memorized the rulebook.

I know those! They were the premade characters from the G1-2-3 modules!

Yeah I keep forgetting that it's just a compound word then. A portmanteau is more of a fusion of two words. Like most pokemon. ;)

As a side note: I totally agree on your version on class names! They're e-x-a-c-t-l-y the same as in my games!

Cheers, LT.
