Another Polymorph question

I'm sure it's been asked before... If you are Polymorphed (or subject to Alter Self, Shapechange, wildshape etc.) do spell effects that are currently in effect on you remain in place? For example, can my wizard cast Fire Shield on himself and then Polymorph into a Fire Shielded polar bear? Do I get to keep the temporary hit points from False Life, the +2 Str enhancement bonus from Bull's Strength, etc.? If not, are those spell effects extinguished, or do they re-assert themselves after returning to your normal form?

Polymorph Other / Self is not Dispel Magic.

Any magic already there stays there.

It does not get rid of any spell effects already in place.

This is what I thought "by the rules" (eg pp171-172 Player's Handbook), but it seemed to make the Natural Spell feat potentially redundant - well, at least less useful than one might at first think, although it's still quite handy - and really let the wizard with the personal buffs kick some melee ass more than a reasonable man would give credit for. I think my 8th level Evoker will try the Flying, Mage Armoured, Shielded, Fire Shielded, polar bear (with Darkvision and See Invisibility for good measure, just 'cos he always has them up) next battle.

Just remember to get some healing before changing back to your original form... You'll have some good hps while in bear form, but they disappear, which'll take a Mage below 0 faster then you can say... "Medic!!!"

YMMV
