another question about undeads

Angel was cursed as a vampire with his soul - which is why he was "special" and "good". He had to remember all of the evil things he did before he was "cursed" as torture.

There were several episodes where he lost his soul though.

It wasn't so much that he had to remember all his past evil deeds, but more that his soul also imbued him with a conscience, causing him to feel guilt and remorse (a lot of it, and all at once too). :)

Thanks, that's a better description. It is part of him being "good".

I think it is a pretty good model to use when attempting something like what the OP is asking about too. What are the ramifications of such a creature gaining a soul? Oh yeah a lot of great story lines and role-playing potential there.

I thought in Libris Mortis, it stated (in the Undead Monster Classes section) that Vampire Spawn had +4 LA, which would make sense.

Anyways, there was an item like this presented in the back of PHB2, using the rebuild quest. The Necrotic Cradle, a place where Life and Undeath, Positive and Negative energy meet, is where someone could go to re-create themselves in an undead form, or purge themselves of the taint of undeath. Last chapter in PHB2, and it might be worth looking at, if you can.

hey

Irdeggman and runestar- Wow...and I am not trying to argue with any of you, for I am a novice to angel. All I saw was the last season, but I remember seeing a episode which went to the past where Angel was obviously evil. There was also that english vampire, I like him but forget his name. Wasnt there a debate going on about a vampire getting his soul back, but no one knew who it was. Didnt they go on a false quest somewhere in that season. I thought there was a legend about a vampire regaining his soul, and because of this Angel was trying to be good...I must have been real high watching the show...oh well...lol
Dragonwriter- I will have to check, but theres a class vampire spawn that has 8 levels in it. It would make sense not to have a LA if the character is slowing over level progressions obtaining special abilities and stat bonuses, etc...
Wow...Im feeling the Necrotic Cradle, I will have to check that out. Thanks.

Angel didn't really gain a soul: he gained a conscience. While they referenced to him as if he had a soul: He didn't really, this was why Angelus can still be in him.

Spike gained a actual soul in Buffy. That was why he could die and return as a ghost (you need a soul to return as a ghost).

Actually Angel was the legendary vampire with a soul - so he did get one from the curse that caused him to lose it if he ever experienced "true happiness" - something that happened a few times during the Buffy and Angel series (usually revolving around him making love to someone he was in love with). Angelus was not within him, but was him when he didn't have a soul - like Angel was within Angelus when he did (he wasn't always a vampire, at one time he was "normal").

Yup Spike had to fight his way to gain a soul - he was not cursed like Angel was. But once he gained it, he too suffered the "guilt" that Angel did - well a shortened version (I think it was for like 2 or 3 episodes of Buffy then they moved on with the story line).

Really the series story arc is a tremendous role-playing tool for a vampire who wants to gain his soul back.

Savage Progressions article from the WotC site had an 8 level vampire progression but no vampire spawn one.

Using that system is the way to handle suddenly gaining a template mid-campaign (I think I pointed that out in the earlier thread) in order to prevent a sudden jump in power for one PC thus leaving the others behind and out of balance.

There is a vampire spawn class in libris mortis, IIRC.

Though I am personally not a fan of the high LA and crappy features of undead HD. Makes you far too weak to contribute effectively to the party, harder to kill you may be by virtue of your new immunities.
