So, we finally got a preview of a couple races with new ability score options in the red box.
Halfling +2 Dex +2 Con/Cha - the ultimate assassin
Elf - +2 Dex +2 Int/Wis - I'll cross my fingers for a good reason to pick +Int and suffer a lower Defense somewhere.
Dwarf - +2 Con +2 Str/Wis - So the difference between them and muls is a racial power (we'll see) vs. faster second wind? Hmm.
Human - same +2 to one, but they now get one of the coolest (imo) racial powers; +4 to an attack or save you just failed as a free action.
Anyway, the way these new ability score options were described to us is that Wizards took what they felt was the no-brainer approach. Halflings are assassins and rogues, elves are archers and wand wizards, and dwarves are fighters and clerics. So, let's apply liberally to other races for...
Deva = Avenger, Cleric, Invoker, Wizard - +Int +Wis/+Dex (beats out +cha because more than 1 described class can use it and they have a lithe enough build to warrant it over Con)
Dragonborn = Warlord, Fighter and Paladin - +Str +Int/Cha
Drow = Assassin, Ranger, Rogue, Warlock - +Cha +Wis/+Dex (Ties them to elves and makes them good clerics for fluff)
Genasi = Swordmage and warlord (really guys?) - + Int +Cha/+Str
Gnoll = rogue, ranger, warlock, assassin - +Dex +Str/+Con (Puts them on par with half-orcs from a different view point)
Gnome = Warlock, bard, sorcerer, wizard +Int +Con/+Cha (this would also make them good tinkerers if they chose to be)
Goliath = Barbarian, Fighter, Warden - +Str +Wis/+Con (I see the goliath as a quintessential warden, and it ties them better to the primal power source without making them dwarves)
Half-Elf = Warlord, bard, paladin, warlock - +Cha +Int/+Con (Finally ties them to elves)
Half-Orc = Fighter, Barbarian, Ranger, and Rogue - +Str +Wis/+Dex (makes for a good fighter or ranger, which they seem to be better at flavor-wise than rogue/barbarian in 4e)
Kalashtar = Bard, Cleric, Paladin, Warlock - +Cha +Wis/+Int (they become better starlocks and bards)
Revenant = Assassin, rogue, warlock - +Con +Dex/+Cha
Shadar-Kai = avenger, bard, fighter, invoker, ranger, rogue, sorcerer, warlord, and wizard (should consider loaning some of these favorites to the genasi) - +Dex +Int/Cha
Shifter = Druid, Fighter, Ranger, Warden - +Wis +Str/+Dex (rolled into 1 race with these stats and a couple of flavor choices)
Tiefling = Warlock, Warlord, Rogue - +Int, +Cha/+Wis (they become good artificers, as several have been depicted already and keeps them distinct from gnomes; I'm also willing to bet we see some of the Cha based hellock powers from DDI in the new book, which rules out Con)
Warforged = fighter, barbarian, warden, paladin - +Str +Con/+Wis
